De mi-Sept à mi-Octobre, j’étais en France. J’ai d’abord accompagné un groupe dans la belle région de la Dordogne pendant 12 jours. Sur cette photo, je suis devant l’abbaye de Brantôme. Ce village est aussi surnommé la Venise du Périgord. Puis j’ai rendu visite à ma famille qui habite dans région parisienne.

Aussi j’ai continué à travailler avec mon amie Marick sur le voyage bilingue: Discover the Charm of La Provence. C’est un voyage linguistique et culturel de 7 jours, basé à Aix-en-Provence. Ce voyage en petit groupe (10 personnes) vous offrira une opportunité unique de vous immerger dans la culture et la langue française dans une atmosphère décontractée et conviviale. En plus des visites touristiques, vous participerez à divers programmes où vous rencontrerez et bavarderez en français avec des habitants de la région. En même temps, vous développerez vos connaissances sur la gastronomie, l'art, l'histoire et les traditions provençales.

Si vous êtes curieux, écrivez-moi et je vous enverrai l’itinéraire et les détails.

A partir de la mi-janvier, j’aimerais commencer une nouvelle classe de conversation via Zoom le samedi matin sur des sujets divers (niveau B2 et plus) dans le style des salons du samedi matin que j’organisais à Chicago. En plus il y aura quelques salons des arts en semaine comme d’habitude. Et bien sûr, je suis toujours disponible pour des cours privés.

From mid Sept. to mid oct., I took a group of travelers in the beautiful region of the Dordogne for 12 days. On this photo, I am standing in front of the abbey of Brantôme. This village is nicknamed the Venice of the Perigord. Afterwards, I visited my family living in the Paris area.

I also continued to work with my friend Marick on the bilingual tour: Discover the Charm of La Provence. This is a 7-day linguistic and cultural tour, based in Aix-en-Provence. This small group tour (10 persons) offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the French language and culture in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. In addition to sightseeing, you will participate in various events with locals and have an opportunity to practice your “français" while gaining insights into the gastronomy, tradition, art, and history of Provence.

Starting mid-January, I would like to start a new group conversation class via Zoom on Saturday morning on various topics (level B2 & up), in the style of the Saturday morning salons I used to organized in Chicago. In addition, I will continue to offer a few Salon des Arts during the week. And of course, I am available for private classes.

Something French 

en France ou dans le monde

Sur la route du Périgord, notre groupe a traversé la région de la Loire et visité les villes d’Orléans et Chinon, sites incontournables de l’histoire de Jeanne d’Arc, l’héroïne de la guerre de Cent Ans. A sa naissance en 1412, le royaume de France est en crise et partiellement envahi par les Anglais. A 13 ans, elle entend des voix célestes lui demandant de libérer le royaume de France et de conduire le Dauphin Charles 7 sur le trône. Elle s’engage dans l’armée et rencontre le Dauphin à Chinon en 1429. Celui-ci lui confie une petite armée avec laquelle elle délivre Orléans en 8 jours. Jeanne d’Arc va bouleverser le cours de la guerre de Cent Ans. Sa détermination, son courage, sa piété redonnent confiance aux troupes françaises. Grâce à elle, Charles 7 est sacré roi de France à Reims en 1429. Elle continuera à repousser les Anglais mais sera faites prisonnière et brûlée vive à Rouen à l’âge de 19 ans en 1431. La dernière victoire de Charles VII sur les Anglais en 1453, mettra fin à la guerre de Cent Ans.

Saviez-vous que Jeanne d’Arc est canonisée par le pape Benoît XV en 1920, soit près de 500 ans après sa mort ?

On the road to the Dordogne region, our group traveled through the Loire Valley and visited the towns of Orleans and Chinon, key sites in the history of Joan of Arc, the heroine of the Hundred Years’ War. When she was born in 1412, the Kingdom of France was in dismay from being partially invaded by the English. At the age of 13, she heard some divine voices telling her to liberate the Kingdom of France and to lead the Dauphin Charles 7 to the throne. She joined the army and met the Dauphin (the heir to the throne) in Chinon in 1429. He entrusts her with a few soldiers and they delivered Orleans in 8 days. Joan of Arc greatly influences the course of the Hundred Years’ War. Thanks to her determination, courage, and piety, the French soldiers regain confidence and Charles 7 is crowned King of France in Reims in 1429. She will be successful to push the English even further but she will be imprisoned and burnt at the stake in Rouen in 1431 at the age of 19. The final victory of Charles 7 over the English in 1453 will finally end the Hundred Years War. 

Did you know that Joan of Arc was canonized by Pope Benoît XV in 1920, about 500 years after her death?

This class provides an opportunity to activate your passive knowledge of French syntax and vocabulary and to help you communicate more precisely and confidently. In a supportive and structured setting, you will be encouraged to express your opinion, share your experiences and perspectives about a vast array of topics on society & culture, gastronomy as it relates to France & other francophone countries. I will select a different theme for each class. We will also review grammar and pronunciation when necessary.

Classe de conversation sur l’art 

Sujet - L’art urbain: peintures murales, graffiti, affichage, trompe l’oeil, tricot etc... Le street art, appelé aussi art urbain, est un ensemble de plusieurs mouvements artistiques qui ont pour point commun de s’exprimer dans l’espace public.

Choose a Tuesday or a Thursday class. This is a 2-part class

Part 1: Tuesday Jan. 28 (2 – 3:30 PM) or Thursday January 30 (5:30 – 7 PM) - CDT

Perfect for those who do not want to have an online Zoom class but would rather work on their own on their writing skills. I will send an article to read, sometimes combined with an audio and ask you to write an essay or a creative piece based on the documents sent. You will receive constructive feedbacks and corrections as well as follow up grammar handouts and study materials based on your needs. We will communicate via email.
