President's Message

It has been a great year as President and I would like to thank the Board of Directors, Past President, and the Chamber members, volunteers, sponsors and donors for all your support of the Chamber.

Without all of you the Chamber could not have accomplished its mission to promote business and economic development as well as community outreach that benefit Chinatown businesses, and provide the Hawaii community with cultural events to perpetuate, cultivate and rejuvenate Chinese tradition, history and pride.

Also, the Chamber events would not be the same without the presence of our Queen and Court. We thank them for their time and effort to volunteer at many events in the community as the Chamber’s goodwill ambassadors. The past Queen Alycia Abordonado & court were the highlight of the Narcissus Goodwill Tour in August of last year to Xi’an, Inner Mongolia and Beijing, and Queen Maddie Au and Court will be on the China Silk Road tour starting on Sunday.

Congratulations to the incoming officers on another successful year.

Mahalo,

Gabe Lee

25-26 President of Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii

Chamber Highlights: Natural Hazard & Emergency Preparedness Seminar

On May 28, 2026, the Chinese Chamber and the Chinese Chamber Foundation hosted a seminar on disaster readiness, drawing over 30 in-person and Zoom participants.

Featured speaker, Chinese Chamber Past President Dennis Hwang from the UH Sea Grant College Program (NOAA) shared critical insights from the Homeowner's Handbook to Prepare for Natural Hazards , emphasizing property protection following early 2026 winter storms that caused over $1 billion in local damages.

Key Takeaways for Members:

  • The Triple Threat: When a hurricane hits Oʻahu, properties face a combined threat of high winds, severe flooding, and coastal storm surge. Always check your hazard zones and plan evacuation routes early.

  • Secure Your Structure: Building a "continuous load path" by retrofitting older homes with hurricane clips prevents roofs from blowing off during extreme wind events.

  • Lower Your Premiums: Completing simple retrofits can earn you substantial insurance discounts—up to 10% for hurricane clips, 12% for foundation tie-downs, and 15–18% for wind-rated window protections.

  • Get Prepared: Keep a 14-day supply of food and water on hand , pack a 3-day emergency "Go Bag" , and register for official text and email updates at hnlalert.gov.

Mahalo to Dennis Hwang and all who attended for helping build a safer, more resilient community!
