Join us today in Honolulu Chinatown for Choy Cheng (采青) as we welcome the Chinese New Year and celebrate the arrival of spring!
Nice lion dance teams will be visiting businesses throughout Chinatown, bringing blessings of prosperity, good fortune, and good health for the Year of the Horse. The Opening Ceremony of the Chinatown Open House will be at 6:00 p.m. in front of the Chinese Chamber office on 8 S King Street.
We are excited to announce that a special Yingge Dance troupe from Guangdong, China will be joining the Choy Cheng Opening Ceremony on February 13. This marks the delegation’s first-ever appearance in Hawaii, making the celebration even more meaningful.
Yingge Dance, which originated in the mid–Ming Dynasty, is a traditional Chinese folk square dance from the Chaoshan region of Guangdong. The powerful and rhythmic performance uniquely blends elements of Southern-style martial arts and Chinese opera, creating a dynamic art form that reflects strength, unity, and cultural heritage.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience an authentic and vibrant piece of Chinese intangible cultural heritage right here in Chinatown!
