The Lunar New Year is upon us as we celebrate the Year of the Monkey. Here's a great chance for the whole family to enjoy colorful lion and dragon dancers making their way through the Uptown neighborhood as we celebrate the Asian community and the profound impact they've made to both the 46th Ward and the City of Chicago.

WARD OFFICE CLOSED THIS FRIDAY & MONDAY
Due to Lincoln's Birthday this Friday, Feb. 12 and Presidents' Day on Monday, Feb. 15, the Ward Office will be closed. Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Ward Office will reopen at 9am.

Ald. Cappleman wants to hear from 46th Ward constituents. Neighborhood organizations and larger residential buildings are encouraged to call Ald. Cappleman's office (773-878-4646) or email ( info@james46.org) to set up a time to meet with him after office hours.

DAILY GUEST PARKING PASSES: NO LONGER ACCEPTING CASH
As of March 1, 2016, ward offices will no longer be able to accept cash payments for these passes. You are still able to come to the ward office to use a credit card to buy a book of 15 passes for $8.00. You can now purchase up to 45 passes (3 books for $24) in a 30 day period. You can also purchase these passes online at the City Clerk's website here.

DEVELOPMENT UPDATES
CLARENDON/MONTROSE DEVELOPMENT
The proposed $125M project at Montrose and Clarendon passed through the City Council's Committee on Zoning, Landmarks and Building Standards and will eventually make it's way to the Comittee on Finance to finalize the TIF portion of the project. Please go to our website here for more details regarding this proposal. 
3901 N. BROADWAY
East Lake View Neighbors reviewed and approved a new proposal for the former gas station located at the corner of N. Broadway & W. Sheridan (close to Gill Park) on February 9. This development is expected to cost over $20M. Click here to review the plans. Next step is for this to go before the 46th Ward Zoning & Development Committee on February 29. If you do not know who your representative is on this committee, please call the 46th Ward Office. Your representative needs to hear from you.
SARAH'S CIRCLE EXPANSION
Sarah's Circle provides permanent and interim housing with wrap-around services for chronically homeless women. They are proposing to expand their footprint and services to meet the needs to the City of Chicago and the community. To do this, they have asked for support of an up-zone for an addition they are proposing on the property directly south of their current site. Four neighboring block clubs met with Sarah's Circle on February 8 and have enthusiastically supported this zoning change. CONTEST FOR CAB DRIVERS
The City of Chicago will award one taxicab medallion to an exemplary taxicab driver who serves the disabled community by driving a wheelchair accessible vehicle. The City's Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection has launched the nomination period for the 2015 Taxicab Driver Excellence Award. Click here for more information.

FREE TAX HELP

The City of Chicago offers free, confidential tax help at locations across Chicago from late January through mid-April. If you are a family earning up to $50,000 or an individual earning up to $25,000, you may be eligible to take advantage of this free service. Click here for more information.
