WAMSUTTA BEACH
I have been asked before about Wamsutta Beach and it's location and there still seems to be questions as to its whereabouts'.
As there are so many new families living here in Halifax today I thought it would be a good time to revisit this and let the younger families know that we have a Historical Society and Museum with many items and artifacts featuring Halifax's past.
Yes, we had a beach known as "Wamsutta" and it was where the state boat landing is today. On the curve of Monponsett Street (Route 58) heading north toward Hanson. Next to BR's restaurant.
The section of Route 58 was known as "White's Island", as it truly was an island before the bridges were built to connect the sections of mainland together. A family name White owned the property, thus the name by which we still call it today. This Island was a retreat for Chief Wamsutta and his braves in the summertime where they camped and fished. This is where Chief Wamsutta and his braves were captured by Major Church and a plague can be seen across the street at the south end of White's Island and Monponsett Street.

There was a bath house at this beach as you can see in the photo from an old postcard from the collection of the Halifax Historical Society.
Respectfully submitted, Sue Basile

The 2019 Halifax Reads selection is An Invisible Thread... there are many great programs “built to surround the notions of Kindness, Civic Engagement and Reaching Out”.
As part of Holmes Library's civic engagement and kindness initiative around An Invisible Thread, the Teen Craft Night made fleece blankets/beds for area animal shelters. Great work, Teens!

Choices
“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”
~ Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
"I think most of us are raised with preconceived notions of the choices we're supposed to make. We waste so much time making decisions based on someone else's idea of our happiness - what will make you a good citizen or a good wife or daughter or actress. Nobody says, 'Just be happy - go be a cobbler or go live with goats.' "
~ Sandra Bullock
"A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results." ~ Wade Boggs
