Sointula and Port McNeill

Unforeseen circumstances meant that we had to shift our plans from a morning 'Yalis trip to a Sointula sojourn. When God closes a door, he opens a window, and Deborah Murray (see yesterday's email) once again had us covered.

Within the space of 24 hours, a pop up concert in the community hall was organized and over 50 locals were there to hear us at 11am, 15 minutes after our ferry docked! There are powerful organizers up here!

Sointula literally means "place of harmony" in Finnish (where many of the early settler population of this town come from) and true to their name, they have a beautiful community centre with fabulous acoustics for singing.

After the pop-up concert, we had some time to explore the museum before our ferry back.

And the ferry trip back gave Sihana time to teach Emmanuel some braiding techniques ;)

In the evening, we sang a concert at the Gate House Theatre in Port McNeill. The concert raised over $1000 for Wild Heart Music, a non-profit music program that has been bringing free choir lessons and vocal workshops to the youth of the North Island since 2013.

We finished the day at the Devil's Bath Brew Pub for a fun dinner with friends old and new...

...and a bit of unwinding in the hotel common room!
