Cholla District Weekly Update

Dear Cholla Residents,


The Glendale Police Department offers an 11-week program that is free and designed for Glendale residents as well as members of the business community. The Citizen Police Academy program allows participants to engage with the Glendale Police Department and gain an inside perspective on the different roles and responsibilities of both our sworn officers and non-sworn employees. Throughout the 11-week program, participants will meet and get to know the men and women of the Glendale Police Department, discuss how they make our community safe, and participate in hands-on experiences with the tools and equipment they use.


Applications are now open for the next Citizen Police Academy.

Next session is tentatively scheduled for August-November 2025.

  • Space is Limited
  • Classes are held Wednesday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and two Saturday day classes

Program Curriculum Includes:

  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • D.U.I. Recognition
  • K-9’s
  • EOD (Bomb Squad)
  • Assertive Driving – Take a spin in one of our Squad cars on our driving track!
  • Firearms training
  • Investigations – Fugitive Apprehension, Gangs, Homicide
  • Detention Operations and Tour
  • Communications Operations (9-1-1 center) and Tour
  • Community Action Teams
  • And more…

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be able to attend a 11-week program
  • Complete the Application Process

Application Process:

  • Participants must complete and submit the Citizens Police Academy Application by using the QR code in the flyer, by emailing GPDCAT@glendaleaz.com

or by calling 623-930-3380

  • Participants must pass a basic background check.

No major restrictions or closures this weekend due to the Memorial Day holiday


Upcoming traffic control — next week:

This is new information that will be publicized this week and next week in advance of the closure. I will also do some targeted outreach to the Arrowhead Lakes neighborhood. 

51st Avenue will be closed in both directions at Loop 101 May 30 - June 2 


51st Avenue will be closed in both directions at the Loop 101 interchange from 10 p.m. Friday, May 30, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 2, for bridge removal work.



Glendale Pavement Management Activity

Union Hills Drive will have traffic restrictions for the tree removal activity from May 28th through May 30th. During this period there will be one travel lane open for traffic in each direction on Union Hills Drive from 67th Avenue to 77th Avenue.
