Cholla District Weekly Update

June 20, 2025

Dear Cholla Residents,

At the June 10 workshop council was provided and update on the CAP and the Colorado River water supply. The current Colorado River operating guidelines expire in 2026 and negotiations continue with the 7 Basin States, Mexico and the Department of the Interior. In June of 2022 the city declared a Stage 1 drought Watch as a result of the Colorado River Tier 1 shortage. Glendale has a diverse water supply and our Water Services team has done an excellent job of managing the city's water supply and has been preparing for different water shortage scenarios that may come as a result of the negotiations. You can view the power point presented to council by clicking here.

There was a second presentation from Water Services Staff that provided an update on the city's Water Meter Replacement Plan that includes advanced metering Infrastructure.

Below are some of th emany benefits of this replacment plan.

• Optimize water conversation efforts with improved water usage analytics

• Improve customer experience by providing water usage & billing information more quickly

• Optimize in-house operations and processes

• Improve metering accuracy and reduce non-revenue water

• Stay current with industry norms and practices

The city of Glendale has been monitoring lead and copper in homes in accordance with the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) since 1992, has been compliant with the LCR and has not exceeded the regulatory action levels for either lead or copper.

The requirements of the LCRR include:

  • Identifying areas most affected through a service line inventory.
  • Strengthening treatment requirements.
  • Improving risk communication.

Service lines are defined as the pipe that connects from the water main to the inlet of the building or home, including privately and publicly owned sections. The service line inventory consists of all service lines within the distribution system, including those serving landscapes and residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Glendale does not have records of any known public lead service lines.

As always, please feel free to reach out with your questions and concerns.

I value your input and feedback.

Warm Regards,

Lauren
