Dear Cholla Residents,

Did you know that you can save water and money utilizing Glendale's Landscape Rebate Program? The purpose of the landscape rebate program is to encourage a permanent reduction in the amount of water used for landscaping purposes to save water.

For existing homes, you can reduce your outdoor water use by 50% or more by installing xeriscape, converting grass to low-water-use landscape.

To qualify, homeowners must remove or otherwise eliminate at least 500 square feet of grass. The removed grass area must be landscaped (not left as bare soil and no artificial grass). In addition, more than 75% of new landscape plants must be on the state’s recommended low-water-use plant list. Click here to view the plant list.

Lastly, homeowners must show proof of grass conversion by providing before and after pictures or by scheduling an on-site inspection prior to the grass removal. Conversion work (of more than 500 square feet) must be completed within the last 12 months.

Rebate amount according to amount of grass removed:

$150 for 500 - 1500 sq. ft. removed
$300 for 1500 - 2500 sq. ft. removed
$450 for 2500 - 3500 sq. ft. removed
$600 for 3500 - 4500 sq. ft. removed
$750 for 4500 sq. ft. and more removed

There are landscape rebates for new homes too. You can receive a $200 landscape rebate for new homes by installing a low-water-use xeriscape landscape. For new homes to qualify:

  • More than 50 percent of the total landscape (front and back) must be non-grass. This does not include pools, buildings, patios or driveways as part of the landscaped square footage.
  • Landscaped area must exceed 1,000 square feet.
  • Both front and back must be landscaped. Unplanted bare soil areas and artificial grass do not qualify.
  • More than 75 percent of trees and shrubs must be on the state's recommended low-water-use plant list.
  • Landscape work (of more than 1,000 square feet) must be completed within the last 12 months.

Fireworks for the 4th at Westgate Entertainment District

Enjoy fireworks and food on Sunday, July 4 at the Westgate Entertainment District. There will be dinner deals, live music, and a display of fireworks!

GLENDALE INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY NOTICE
City Office Hours and Schedule Changes

City of Glendale offices will be closed Monday, July 5, 2021, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. City offices will reopen Tuesday, July 6.

All residential garbage, recycling and bulk trash collection services will take place as usual on all regularly scheduled collection days throughout the holiday week. The Glendale Municipal Landfill and the Solid Waste customer service office will be closed July 5 in observance of the holiday. Only GUS Bus One will run July 5, operating on the Sunday schedule, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. No same-day Dial-a-Ride service will be available July 5. ADA service will be available and based on a holiday fixed-route schedule. Dial-A-Ride reservations for the Independence Day weekend must be made by noon, Friday, July 2. Valley Metro bus and rail will operate on Sunday schedules on July 4 and 5. There will be no Express or RAPID service on Monday, July 5 and Valley Metro Customer Service will be closed. The Glendale Municipal Airport will remain open during the holiday, however, the airport’s administrative offices will be closed.

Glendale Public Libraries will be closed July 5, along with the Visit Glendale offices. All Glendale Library Branches will reopen at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6.

The splash pads at Heroes Regional Park and O’Neil Park will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Rose Lane Aquatics Center opens for the season July 6. The Aquatics Center at Foothills Recreation Center is now closed for the season. The Glendale Community Center and Glendale Adult Center will be closed July 5 and reopen Tuesday July 6.
