Dear Cholla Residents,

As you most likely are aware, the City of Glendale informed the Arizona Coyotes NHL hockey team yesterday afternoon that their year to year Gila River Arena lease will not be renewed. The lease terminates June 30, 2022.

While we appreciate the Arizona Coyotes for being part of our community over the past eighteen years, after carefully weighing input from stakeholders, economic experts and our arena management firm (ASM Global), we have determined that an increased focus on events that appeal to a wider range of consumers is in the best interest of Glendale residents.

A key stakeholder, YAM Properties (owner of Westgate), was fully informed of the city’s decision. Dan Dahl, Director of Real Estate Investment for YAM Properties provided the following statement, “The City of Glendale has been a great partner for us, and we support its decision regarding the arena. With a diverse mix of dining, shopping and entertainment options, Westgate will continue to hold its own as a thrilling entertainment hub for the West Valley."

The Council and our city management team are excited about several new projects planned for the area that will excite and engage both residents and visitors. Over the past three years more than a billion dollars of investment has occurred in and around the Westgate Sports and Entertainment District. The city is prepared to move forward with our committed partners in pursuing these, and many more exciting opportunities. The Council has instructed the City Manager to work with ASM and develop a plan for renovations to the arena that will deliver an absolutely outstanding venue that will remain relevant and marketable for years to come.

As your Councilmember, I want to assure you that I do not take these decisions lightly, and truly believe that this decision is in the best interest of Glendale residents.

Live Music at Murphy Park

There will be live music in Historic Downtown Glendale during the month of October with the excitement of LiVE! @ Murphy Park. These free performances will take place at Murphy Park’s Amphitheatre, Thursday – Saturday from 7-9 p.m. Plan a date night or meet your friends and experience the downtown businesses and local music scene under the stars.
Jurassic Fight Night Scrimmage at Arrowhead Mall

Jurassic Fight Night will be hosting a Dino Day on August 21 from 1:00 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. in the Food Court at Arrowhead Towne Center. Dino Day is a free event that will feature a pre-fight scrimmage, dinosaur photo ops and more dino-themed activities. Click here for more details.

Jurassic Fight Night is a family-friendly, non-stop, high-energy entertainment production featuring dinosaurs in the boxing ring fighting to determine the fiercest creature of the prehistoric era. This will be the first year in Jurassic Fight Night history to include the debut of the NEW female division, “Diva Dinos!” The new female crew will be flying in from all different parts of the world and are as ready as ever to accept the challenge of claiming their title as the 2021 Jurassic Fight Night Champion; determined to take the belt from the male division once and for all!
