Cholla District Weekly Update

April 9, 2021

Dear Cholla Residents,

This week, the Glendale City Council continued its work on crafting the city's fiscal year 2022 budget, holding all day budget workshops on April 6th and 8th.

With public safety as a continued priority, proposed operating budget expenditures for police services comprise 44% of operating expenses and fire services total 22%. Additionally, new investments will be made to strengthen the city's cybersecurity infrastructure and new funding will be allocated to our city parks system aimed at improving neighborhood quality of life. The city's proposed general fund operating expenses total $238.2M.

The City Council will continue its work on crafting the next fiscal year's budget through April and will likely cast our final vote in May. Our next budget workshop meeting will be held on April 20th.

Midwestern University Hosts

Vaccine Community Outreach Day

Midwestern University will be holding a special Community Outreach Day this Saturday, April 10 from 8:30AM to 11:30AM. The university has invited Special Olympics of Arizona to the campus to provide their adult athletes, families, and coaches with their COVID-19 vaccinations. As part of community outreach, Midwestern University will have some appointments available for university faculty, staff, students, and patients, as well as small businesses nearby.

During the Community Outreach Day on April 10, the university will be offering the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson. The Janssen vaccine is the only COVID-19 vaccination authorized by the FDA to be administered as a single dose for adults 18 and older.
