Cholla District Weekly Update

Dear Cholla Residents,

As Glendale residents, we receive once per month bulk trash pick-up service. Please follow the established bulk trash placement schedule as this will assist in keeping our neighborhoods clean, operational costs down, and the collection service timely.

When following bulk trash placement rules, bulk trash should not be placed earlier than the Thursday before scheduled pick-up and no later than 6:00a.m. the Monday of your scheduled collection week. Please note that it is a city code violation to place bulk trash curbside outside this window.

In Cholla, bulk trash collection always falls on the first Monday of the month. For your reference, below is the remaining collection weeks scheduled for 2021.

June 7-11
July 5-9
August 2-6
September 6-10
October 4-8
November 1-5
December 6-10

Summer Reading for Kids

The temperatures are rising, the kids are out of school, and summer reading is back! Glendale Public Library is proud to offer Maricopa County's 2021 Summer Reading Program for all ages, from June 1-August 1. Sign up today at MaricopaCountyReads.org (English) or CondadoDeMaricopaLee.org (Spanish) and be sure to choose "Glendale Public Library" as your home library system.

This year’s theme is “Tails and Tales,” exploring the many stories of the animal kingdom. Although the program is designed to maintain and improve literacy skills throughout the summer, it’s not just for kids! Summer Reading allows readers of all ages to earn points, unlock badges, and win prizes. It’s fun for the whole family!

You can earn one point per minute for reading printed books or eBooks (including graphic novels) or listening to audiobooks. Reading at least 20 minutes per day is the goal! Earn additional points for attending virtual events hosted by librarians and local performers, completing online library challenges, and participating in community experiences to find secret codes outside of the library.

Although you must register and log your reading online to play, you can still pick up paper reading gameboards at all of our library locations to help keep track. If you need help registering or logging reading time online, library staff will be happy to assist you. Click here for more details.

Midwestern University

Community Health Lecture Series

Midwestern University is hosting a special Community Health Lecture Series presentation entitled “Vaccine Myths” on June 14^th, 6:30PM to 7:30PM at the Glendale Foothills Branch Library. Presented by Dr. Jennifer Wild, Medical Director of the Operation Hope Vaccination Center at the Midwestern University Therapy Institute, this free community presentation will explore the various COVID-19 vaccines available to the public and provide information on their development and safety for the general public.

This presentation is part of the Midwestern University Community Health Lecture Series, which offers FREE monthly public lectures on health and medicine by Midwestern University faculty in partnership with the Glendale Public Library.

WHO: anyone at least 15 years old can apply for lifeguard; swim instructor applicants must be at least 16 years old

WHAT: the city of Glendale is looking to fill temporary aquatics lifeguard and swim instructor positions

WHERE: Glendale’s two aquatics centers are located at 5600 W. Union Hills Dr. (Foothills) and 5003 W. Marlette Ave. (Rose Lane)

WHEN: Potential employees must be available during the entire aquatics season starting in early May 2021 through early September 2021. Some pools may remain open during evening hours and on weekends through Labor Day weekend. Click here for more details.
