Dear Cholla Residents,
September is National Preparedness Month which began in 2004 to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies. Just taking a few small steps can make a big difference in making sure you and your family members are prepared for an emergency.
The City of Glendale Emergency Management Team is responsible for coordinating the City’s mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery efforts in order to reduce the impact of emergencies and disasters on people and property. Their mission is to support the protection of life, property, and environment by leveraging industry best practices and working collaboratively with the public and stakeholders who are experts in their respective fields to educate, plan, organize, equip, train and exercise, creating a safe and resilient city.
One of the key components of a prepared and resilient community is personal preparedness. Personal preparedness includes being ready for emergencies at home, at work, or anywhere you may spend time. Being prepared can help to reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that occur during an emergency or disaster. There are simple steps to take to increase your personal preparedness. A key step you can take to become more prepared is to sign up for community alerts through the City of Glendale Community Alert Program. This system enables us to provide you with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons, and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods. You will receive time-sensitive messages wherever you specify, such as your home, mobile, or business phones, email address, text messages, and more. You sign up for community alerts by using the below link:

Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are also used when there is an imminent threat to life or safety. These messages can only be sent by authorized public alerting authorities. The City partners with the Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management to send these types of alerts. For more information on Wireless Emergency Alerts, visit the Maricopa County Wireless Emergency Alert page by clicking here
You never know when an emergency may happen and being as prepared is critical to keep you and your family safe.
As always, please feel free to reach out with your questions and concerns.
I value your input and feedback.
