Dear Cholla Residents,

We often take for granted the things that are most important to us and our First Responders are certainly one of them. They are ready and available to protect and serve our community around the clock every single day of the year. I have always wanted to do something tangible to show my appreciation and the result was the first Public Appreciation Day in 2023.

I worked with community partners to provide lunch for everyone on duty, both sworn and non-sworn that day.

Public Safety Appreciation Day 2025 was April 9. This year, I partnered with Babbo Italian Eatery, Glendale Rotary Club and Bell Bank to serve 340 lunches that included a thank you note. Many lunches were delivered to people at their work stations and those who were able to come in person, dined on the patio enjoying each other's company and the beautiful weather.

I often compare public safety to how we think about tap water, because it is available anytime we need it. We rarely give a second thought to everything that happens in the background to provide that service to residents. A lunch and a thank you note are just a small way to show gratitude for the service that Glendale's police and fire personnel provide to this community 365 days each year.

Next time you see an officer or firefighter out in the community, thank them.

They will appreciate it!
