Equipment donations support real-world learning
Hands-on learning is a critical element in community college programs, and equipment shared by our industry partners is key to our ability to provide it. One illustration is a recent donation from New England Kenworth, the largest family-owned truck dealership group in New England, who gifted a 2017 PACCAR MX-13 diesel engine to the Diesel Heavy Equipment Technology program at White Mountains Community College. The engine will be used to provide students with real-world experience and prepare them with more skills for an in-demand career.

Christopher Umbreit came to Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions (CAES) through an apprenticeship program offered through Great Bay Community College. Umbreit transitioned to CAES from a job in the dairy industry, which involved running pasteurizing operations for yogurt companies. The apprenticeship provided him with the tools to make a career change in an "earn-while-you-learn" model that supports students and employers alike.

Although she was bright and academically successful, she found her high school classes didn’t always provide her with the real-world applications of what she was learning.
