Aviation takes flight at NCC

After a one-year hiatus, the Aviation Technology associate degree is returning to Nashua Community College (NCC) to train the next generation of technicians. The 21-month program prepares students for professional careers in aviation maintenance with airlines, fixed base operators, or aircraft manufacturers.

“The Aviation Technology degree is a great way for students to access a lifelong career pathway right here in New Hampshire,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs Robyn Griswold.

The degree pathway places major emphasis on the study of aircraft, structures, powerplants and related systems and subjects such as reciprocating engines, turbines, fuel systems, propellers, ignition, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.

Nashua Community College is the only FAA-approved training facility in New Hampshire. Successful completion of the Aviation Technology degree is designed to prepare graduates to pass the FAA airframe and powerplant certification examination.

LRCC’s “Gateway to College” summer bridge program

Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) hosted a group of recent high school graduates at its first summer bridge program. LRCC’s “Gateway to College” is a free, one-week residential opportunity that provides academic and social support for incoming students.

Students spent their mornings in the classroom completing rigorous coursework in English and math, helping them increase placement scores for college-level coursework this Fall.

After class, students participated in “Afternoon Jam Sessions,” which included social interactions, team-building exercises, and support information.

To further experience college life, the students resided in LRCC’s student housing and participated in evening programming.

“In just four afternoons, I watched students make new friends, share ideas and goals, choose schoolwork over socializing, and support each other. I am very grateful to have connected with these students and watch their transformation”, said Andrea Tripple, lead college counselor.

Manchester Community College honors legacy of Scott Mullin

The family of Scott Mullin has established an endowed scholarship fund at Manchester Community College (MCC) to support students pursuing careers in the Powersports industry.

Named after the longtime motorcycle enthusiast and racer, the Scott M. Mullin Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide need-based financial assistance to students enrolled in the Powersports program who aspire to work in the motorsports industry.

“Scott was a very close friend of the Power Sports program at MCC,” said Professor Marc Bellerose, chair of the Automotive Technologies department. “He knew the value of an education and how important it was for the industry to have a skilled workforce. The MCC faculty and staff were grateful for his energy and constant focus on supporting students.

Scott’s influence helped his MCC family maintain a commitment to the educational, professional, and personal success of their students. With this scholarship, we will continue Scott’s legacy and help others enter the field.”

MCC offers a 22-credit Powersports certificate that prepares students to be highly skilled, work-ready technicians. The Mullin family was instrumental in developing the certificate program.

Scott Mullin was 38 years young, a husband, father and a resident of Milford when he passed. A passion for motorcycles and an entrepreneurial spirit led his family to open Souhegan Valley Motorsports in 2005. His education in and outside the classroom was instrumental in nurturing his vision to be regarded as an expert within the power sports industry. He was an accomplished expert-level racer, a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and a pillar of the motorcycle racing community. He passed away August 1, 2021 in a racing accident.

NHTI partners with St. Anselm College for science transfer

Concord’s Community College and Saint Anselm College in Manchester have created a partnership that will allow students who earn associate degrees in several science-related fields to transfer and complete a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in two years.

“NHTI is pleased to join Saint Anselm in creating a pathway for students to achieve their educational goals that begins with a strong foundation in our community college system and leads to admission at this exceptional four-year institution. This partnership builds a bridge of success for New Hampshire’s students,” said Dr. Mark Rubinstein, interim president of NHTI and chancellor of the Community College System of New Hampshire.

NHTI students majoring in Health Sciences, Environmental Science, or Biology who complete their studies with a 2.0 GPA or higher are automatically eligible for the transfer. A flat rate of $5,000 will be charged for each semester’s tuition and the application fee is waived.

Students are eligible for the program as of the 2022-2023 academic year.

Saint Anselm President Dr. Joseph A. Favazza said the partnership is a student-centric approach that will benefit the college as well as New Hampshire students who begin their journey in the community college system.
