One More Night With the Frogs 🐸🐸
As we journey through Lent, we are invited into a season of reflection, repentance, and renewal. It’s a time to pause, examine our hearts, and intentionally draw closer to Christ. Lent isn’t just about giving something up—it’s about making space for God to do something new in us.
Hebrews 12:1 urges us to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles” so that we can “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” This is the essence of Lent: letting go of distractions and burdens so that we can fix our eyes on Jesus.
But too often, we delay the change God is calling us to make. In Exodus 8, when Pharaoh was overwhelmed by the plague of frogs, he begged Moses to pray and ask God to remove them. Moses responded, “When do you want me to pray for you?” And Pharaoh’s answer? “Tomorrow.” Instead of immediate relief, he chose one more night with the frogs.
We do the same thing in our spiritual lives. We put off surrender. We delay repentance. We tell ourselves that we’ll make time for God—tomorrow. But Lent reminds us: the time to respond is now.
Lent is a time to recognize that we often fill our lives with lesser things—things that may not be sinful in themselves but still keep us from a deeper relationship with God. Fasting, whether from food, social media, or other distractions, reminds us of our dependence on Christ. It creates space in our hearts for His voice, His presence, and His transforming work.
John Wesley once said, “The neglect of fasting is inconsistent with the whole tenor of Scripture.” He saw fasting as a vital spiritual discipline—not a burden, but a gift. It is not about earning God’s favor; it is about making room for His grace. When we fast, we acknowledge our deep need for Him. When we pray, we surrender our hearts to His will. When we give, we reflect His generosity to the world.
This Lent, don’t wait until “tomorrow” to take your next step of faith. Engage now. Make space for God now. Worship with us every Sunday of Lent as we walk this journey together, preparing our hearts for the joy of Easter. Let this be the season where you turn your eyes to Jesus, cast aside what holds you back, and open your heart to the fullness of His grace.
