The International Coalition of Performing Arts Organizations just released a short video entitled COVID-19 Mitigation Strategies for Choir, summarizing current research-based recommendations.

The written guidance, which includes an explanation of the CDC's new distancing recommendations, is available here.

Updated Centers for Disease Control Masking Guidance
The CDC released updated masking recommendations on Apr. 27! Fully vaccinated people are, among other activities, cleared to "sing in an indoor chorus" with other fully vaccinated people. Since the guidance is specifically about masks, it is still recommended that singers and conductors wear masks and follow accompanying protocols about distancing and properly ventilating the room to maintain safest conditions. As always, the CDC notes that people should consider local conditions and their own personal situation. Click here for the full, revised CDC masking guidance.

Motivation to Participate in Choirs and Singing Groups
Dr. Kerry Boyle of Canterbury Christ Church University in the United Kingdom invites your choir members to participate in a new international study that explores the reasons why people sing in choirs and singing groups. Responses will help them develop an understanding of the most important aspects of singing in choirs and groups for those involved, which could be used to enhance existing approaches to singing in groups. Please share the invitation and survey link with your choir members.

Identifying Shared Norms of Borrowing, Attribution, and Intercultural Performance Practice
Researchers at the University of Illinois, and CREATe - the UK Copyright and Creative Economy Centre based at the University of Glasgow are seeking input from choral directors of all sorts - sacred and secular; men's, women's, children's, and mixed; renaissance, classical, world music, and/or pop. We seek information on actual directing and composing/arranging practices for the purpose of identifying shared norms of borrowing, attribution, and inter-cultural performance practices. Take the survey.

Content and Effectiveness of Choral Methods
If you are a K-12 choir teacher, you can assist a choral researcher who was a former University of Arizona Ph.D. student, now based at Seoul National University, by completing a survey about the content and effectiveness of choral methods topics. Click here to participate.
