Need some inspiration? Listen to ACDA of Minnesota member Kyle Pederson, AKA the Singing Geography Teacher, extol membership, as well as conferences and other benefits [to the tune of Y.M.C.A.]: "There is so much to do, for a choir geek like you. You can solfège until you're blue. Da-da-da-da. A. C. D-A."

Silver Linings: Singing in Smaller Groups
The evolving pandemic has certainly come with its fair share of challenges for all of us over the past year. While the accompanying restrictions and health guidelines have helped to keep us safe and prevent the spread of the virus, they have also caused us to rethink how we offer the choral experiences we so highly value. . . .
Choral students have had the added benefit of singing in far smaller groups than they normally would have experienced in a typical year due to decreased room capacities and government restrictions on gathering sizes. This opportunity has unexpectedly allowed singers to build greater independence and confidence in their ensemble skills, sometimes working in octets with only one or two singers per part. The smaller groups have also created space for more voices to be heard during discussions related to text or interpretation, leading to a stronger sense of community and investment across the entire ensemble.
. . . I continue to marvel at how well the singers have responded to these new challenges and can’t help but think we might be remiss if we didn’t somehow incorporate these smaller ensemble opportunities for the singers again in the future. As challenging as this situation is, it has taught us to be flexible, creative, and responsive in ways that may indeed improve our overall practices in the years to come. Read full post.

Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus - The Sunrise Project - "The Ground," by Ola Gjeilo
|
|
As fellow singers on the other side of the planet, we have been watching the difficulties that you have been facing in your own country with the effects of the COVID virus and can only imagine the impact on your many choirs and the dedicated choral directors and staff that keep them going. We offer you our sympathy and support.
We have also been feeling the effects, perhaps on a smaller scale. Last year, all our scheduled audience concerts with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra were cancelled. We were greatly disheartened. Fortunately, our choral director, foreseeing the need to keep the energy and enthusiasm alive, came up with the idea of what became known as the “Sunrise Project."
I would like to take this opportunity to share with you the product of that project that it might provide some encouragement and may be some inspiration to your members to show that choristers are strong and resilient and creative and do support each other wherever they may be. We hope you like it.
Reg Marron, Chairman
Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus
