SCAM ALERT

Scams are increasing significantly, so beware of communications that may look real when they are not!

Some Cathedral staff have recently received emails and/or texts that claim to be legitimate requests for things like phone/gift cards or to send funds directly to the requestor or to send personal information because a FedEx delivery could not be made to you. Some of these requests look as though they have come from clergy or other recognizable sources. These kinds of requests are scams.

Please be aware that no one at Christ Church Cathedral, including Clergy or staff, will ever text or email you requesting that you purchase gift cards or send them funds directly. If you do receive one of these requests, do not respond to it. If possible, report the message as “spam” and then delete it.

On May 27, 2026, the transition office at The Commons began receiving names of interested candidates.

DEAN HARLON’S SABBATICAL

Reminder: During August, Interim Dean Harlon Dalton is on sabbatical, returning to the Cathedral this coming Tuesday, September 1. While he is away, The Rev. Linda Spiers will oversee the Cathedral. Please direct inquiries and concerns to her at linda.spiers@cccathedral.org.

9:00 FORMATION ON SUMMER HIATUS

Our 9 a.m. Formation sessions are on hiatus for the rest of the summer. Formation will resume on Sunday, September 6 with “30 Minutes with the Preacher”.

Today was the first day this weekend we will be at Bushnell Park. This afternoon our usual Saturday afternoon Church By the Pond service was celebrated by Bishop Andrew Smith. Tomorrow at 9:30 our Cathedral’s Taste and See service will be back and Bishop Smith will lead us again.

Thirty-one congregants were present today and were amongst lots of clergy as we were joined by four deacons of the Episcopal Church of Connecticut. The deacons gathered to prepare lunches before heading to Bushnell Park. Deacon Pat served as deacon of the table, Deacon C.J. provided a reflection on the Gospel and pointed out that we are disciples, like Simon Peter, “building a church at this pond.”

At the conclusion of the service all deacons shared bagged lunches with forty-five guests.

AFTER PENTECOST

We are many members, yet one body in Christ.

On a sometimes rainy Sunday, forty-plus people gathered in Bushnell Park to attend our “Church By the Pond”-style worship service. The Right Rev. Andrew Smith led the gathering.

The Hospitality Team invites you to enhance our time together after the 10:00 a.m. service by bringing a food/refreshment offering to share.

PLEASE NOTE: During the month of August, there is only one service each Sunday, at 9:30 a.m.

A sign-up sheet will be available every Sunday in the Cathedral House Auditorium on which you may sign up for a specific Sunday and goody offering.

Women in Force will feature visual artists from the Greater Hartford area.

The Opening Night ceremonies will take place on Friday, September 11 from 5:00–8:00 p.m. The featured musical guest will be the the all-female ensemble, Sister Funk.
