The Second Sunday after the Epiphany
We are many members, yet one body in Christ. Somos muchos miembros, pero un solo cuerpo en Cristo.
We are Many Members, yet One Body.”
Today, the Second Sunday after Epiphany, our worship began with the 8:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, with the Rev. Tracy Johnson-Russell, Rector of St. Monica’s Church in Hartford, CT, serving as principal celebrant and preacher. At the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist, presided over by our Dean, the Most Rev. Miguelina Howell, the Rev. Johnson-Russell again offered the sermon, exhorting us to unite prayer with action in our life of faith. Drawing inspiration from the witness of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose commemoration was highlighted by our faith community, she reminded us that despite rejection and misunderstanding, Dr. King persevered in his Gospel-centered struggle for justice and social inclusion—a legacy that remains a source of hope amid ongoing political polarization, violence, and hatred in our nation.
At 11:30 a.m., we shared a luncheon in honor of Dr. King, joined by neighbors who live on the streets, embodying our call to hospitality and solidarity.
At 12:30 p.m., we gathered for the Spanish-language Eucharist, presided over by the Cathedral’s Canon for Latino Ministry, the Rev. Ramón García. In his homily, he invited us to reflect on the spiritual process to which we are called: first, to fix our gaze on Christ, and second, to cultivate a living bond with the “Lamb of God” within the community of faith—nourished by Sacred Scripture and the Sacraments—so that we may fully live the grace of God’s forgiveness.
