Book Study – Wednesdays at 7 PM beginning July 8
with America's Original Sin
Meeting ID: 856 9805 3322; Password: 096580

Christ Church will be holding a series of book studies to continue the work of learning and growing in our ability to do the work of racial healing and dismantling racism. Reading the book is not required, rather it is encouraged for the discussion questions at the end of the teaching.
July 8 – Session One: America’s Original Sin, Race, and the Power of Listening ( Zoom link ) – Join Fr. Michael and Rev. Katie for a class based on the first three chapters of Jim Wallis’ text that explores the sin of racism; the power of witness, sharing stories, and listening; and the role of the Church. The format will involve some time for discussion on these topics and is open to all, regardless if you have had the opportunity to read the text (contact  Rev. Katie  with any questions or, if desired, brief synopses of the chapters for discussion).
Our next two food distribution days for the Mobile Food Pantry will be Friday, July 17 and Thursday, July 30. Please email Honey Harris if you are interested in volunteering. See below for more details and a list of other opportunities to serve.
The Rev. Deacon Rachel Iversen was ordained to the sacred order of deacons on June 28. Deacon Rachel will begin her ministry of service for the next several months at Christ Church, dedicating to helping others. We welcome Deacon Rachel back in this new role and look forward to the ways she will serve God at Christ Church. Read Deacon Rachel’s welcome message here .

During this time, there are ways to effectively and safely extend our hands in love to our neighbors in need. Each week, the Chronicle will provide upcoming opportunities and a list of other ways to be involved. If you are looking for ways to be involved, please email Rev. Katie or call 850-432-5115 or please consider these immediate needs of our community:

Mobile Food Pantry Food Distribution – Christ Church, Friday, July 17
We have been serving around 200 families each food distribution. Our next food distribution will be Friday, July 16. The following distribution date in July will be Thursday, July 30. We are in need of volunteers on both dates to work in the morning to either sort and/or distribute food. While it is outdoors and we take precautions like masks, please do not volunteer if you are at a high risk of infection or if you are not feeling well. Please email Honey Harris to volunteer.

Freedom School – At home, 8:30 AM, daily through July 24
The Central Gulf Coast CDF Freedom School opened on June 24 to promote literacy for the youth in our community from Montclair Elementary, Dixon School of the Arts, and Global Learning Academy. Thank you to the Rev. John Phillips and to Jennifer Adkins, board members, in helping to prepare the opening of the school. Join us throughout the month at 8:30 AM on Zoom for  Harambee! , a daily time of informal sharing when the community comes together to celebrate ( Harambee  is Swahili for “pull together” and reminder that we need one another). Join in any morning and especially on July 8 when Laura Boyles will be the read-a-loud guest! Please contact Rev. Katie for the zoom link. And visit the  Facebook Page   to see pictures, videos, and prayers.

Masks for the VA Clinic – At home, anytime
The VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System is in great need of cloth face masks. If you are able to make masks (please see guidelines on our website: Mask Instructions ), please call or email Rev. Katie .

Links for Love – Anytime, For Children
Christ Church is collecting paper chain links that share messages of LOVE and HOPE to inspire the world. All links from around the world will be connected for a Guinness World Record, then distributed to senior centers and hospitals as a beautiful reminder that we are all “Linked By Love!” Specific instructions can be found here: Linked By Love . Send completed links to: Christ Church, c/o Jen Leahey, 18 W. Wright. St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
It has come to our attention that several parishioners have recently received emails from a hacker impersonating Father Michael. If you received an email that is suspicious, please first check the email address. Father Michael will only email you from our church domain which is  Christ-church.net . Be on the lookout for emails coming from  gmail.com  and some combination of his name. The most recent emails were from  revhoffmanmichael@gmail.com . Sundays ~ 9:30 AM
As our study of the book  Einstein and the Rabbi by Naomi Levy continues, our discussion centers on our soul as the "love force" within us. The subsection title for these chapters (19-26) is "Learning to Love Deeply." Rabbi Levy's thoughts may give us guidance to living a compassionate life in our divided times. This group gathers through a ZOOM connection and is facilitated by Dick Hooper and David Starling. For more information or to get a book, please email David Starling or contact him by text/phone (850) 712-0977.
Come journey with us in Education for Ministry (EfM) as we explore theology, the new frontier. People with big questions and a hunger to better understand our faith join together weekly to study Old Testament, New Testament, church history and theological thinking in a four year program which builds fellowship, understanding and a sense of how God is working in your life. For additional information see University of the South, Sewanee, http://efm.sewanee.edu/about-efm/about-efm . Contact Pam Tanner , 850-471-0291, with questions or to register for our upcoming year, which will start, God willing, in September.
