Katie as we explore DiAngelo’s understanding of “white fragility” and the way in which people respond to issues of race.

If you want to read along, consider purchasing White Fragility here and support Cultured Books, a pop-up children’s bookstore in Florida with the mission of fostering love of self by showing positive images and sharing great stories about people of color.
Volunteers Needed!!
Our next food distribution day for the Mobile Food Pantry will be Friday, August 14. Please email Honey Harris if you are interested in volunteering. See below for more details and a list of other opportunities to serve.
We are proud to share that 14 of our EYC students have been nominated and received the 2020 Presidential Volunteer Service Award. The Presidential Volunteer Service award is a very prestigious award ( that has existed for 17 years and is well-recognized especially among universities.

Requirements for the award:
* Middle School - 50 community service hours completed at ONE nonprofit - Christ Church - in a 12 month period
* High School - 100 community service hours completed at ONE nonprofit - Christ Church - in a 12 month period

Although I wish we could have nominated all of our awesome EYC students who participated in community service activities, there were only a few students who met the Presidential Volunteer Service Award requirements by having all of their 50 community hours (middle school) or 100 community hours (high school) done with us here at Christ Church.

Stay tuned for the details of the date for the ceremony (which will possibly be virtual)…in the meantime, if you see any of these students tell them CoNgRaTs! — Britton Lynn, Director of Youth Ministry

Saturday, August 15
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM online
For 21 years the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama has co-sponsored, with our diocese, an annual pilgrimage to Hayneville, Alabama, to commemorate the life and work of Jonathan Myrick Daniels, a martyr of the Episcopal Church, along with other martyrs of the civil rights movement. This year’s pilgrimage will mark the first time it will be held online. This event is not only a momentous time in this country’s history for discussions about race but also an opportunity to spread widely this story to those who are unable to physically participate and to those who have yet to hear the account of this remarkable man and others killed during the civil rights movement. The keynote speaker will be Dean Kelly Brown Douglas. Bishop Russell will be introducing the Roll Call of the Martyrs and the Prayers of the People, and offering a brief reflection. For full details, click here.
Our weekly Africa 🇺🇬 EYC Book Club starts August 16th on ZOOM
Every Sunday ~ 7:00-8:00 PM
Surprise special guests from Uganda ministries will join us as we read about a teen who moved from Nashville, TN to Uganda in faith — and the challenges to trust God while in Africa. This book club is for guys and girls of all ages. It is a New York Times Bestseller – and one of Britton's personal favorites! You do not need to RSVP to come to the book club and there is no "homework" or reading to participate in this book club! Purchasing a book is not necessary. We will be screen-sharing an e-book, but if you would like to purchase a book it is Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis.
