All are welcome! Grab a refreshment and join us downstairs in the Gathering Room - as we strategize how best to support our vulnerable neighbors. We'll discuss CarePod updates (see below), opportunities for action & advocacy, planning the upcoming forum in February on Supporting Immigrants in the DMV, and more.

To join the Mercy Team distribution list, contact Cynthia Mitchell at justice@ccpk.org or Thea Kayne at theakayne@gmail.com

This is the best way to find out about emerging needs and a variety of ways to get involved.

From the Christ Church Mercy Team:

Care Pod Support for ICE-Affected Families

The Mercy Team has formed a “Care Pod” - a circle of care and support - for a family of four with urgent needs following the deportation of a loved one. Please click HERE to find out more about what the Care Pod is, and does.

Watch this email in the future for a sign-up genius with specific items to contribute to help us support the family.

There are hundreds of families in crisis in our area.

If you would like to have a major impact on the well-being of a family in crisis, please consider volunteering to be part of a second Care Pod. Email Thea Kayne for more information.

“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve.”

Many choose to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s memory with an act of service on or near the federal holiday in his honor. We hope you will make a commitment to do so. This year the suggested days of service are Saturday & Sunday, January 17 and 18, as well as Monday, January 19. There are many opportunities around Montgomery County, including those found on the Montgomery County Volunteer Center website. There are also several opportunities for local park cleanup projects with Montgomery Parks.

Love in Action: Faith & Spiritual Growth

Christ Church: Connect! Begins tomorrow, January 18

Join us! In 3 one-hour sessions, we will help you identify where you are on your faith journey, your inherent spiritual gifts, and potential next steps for you to take as you follow Jesus’s Way of Love at Christ Church. While meant particularly for newcomers, this course is open to everyone. It is a great opportunity not only to attend to your individual spiritual path, but also to build community in a small group setting.

We will meet on 3 Sundays (January 18, 25, and February 1) at 11:30am-12:30pm in the church library. Rector Emily Guthrie, and Andrea McGray, a member of the Faith & Spiritual Growth Ministry Team, will lead the course. Childcare will be available in the Nursery, including serving children a simple lunch if needed.

If interested in coming, please reach out to Emily at emily@ccpk.org and/or Andrea at grow@ccpk.org

Love in Action: Reaching Our Neighbors

SAVE THE DATE: February 8th.

The Inaugural Second Sunday

CARROT COLLECTION at CHRIST CHURCH!

On Sun. Feb 8th, bring two-pound bags of carrots to church. We'll transport them to San Mateo for their monthly distribution to 250+ families in Hyattsville and beyond.

Monthly Grocery Packing

Join us to help bag groceries (including the carrots!) for distribution at San Mateo Episcopal Church in Hyattsville, MD. The next visit will be Wednesday, February 11.  Interested? Please let Deacon Sara know if you are coming by the Tuesday morning before. (sara@ccpk.org)

Formula, Diapers, Vols and $: Ongoing Support for our neighbors!

Donations of baby formula and diapers are as needed as ever. Place in bins in the hallway off the back of the sanctuary. They will be delivered at least monthly to Food Justice DMV. Food Justice also needs monetary donations, 100% of which go to purchase food and supplies for neighbors in crisis. You can do so on their website, or simply make a donation through Realm, choose the Food Justice fund. Have some time? Volunteer to make deliveries. Interested? Please contact Thea Kayne.

Bethesda Cares Sandwich Brigade Needs Volunteers:

One Friday, Once a Year!

The Sandwich Brigade is looking for a few families to join in - all it takes is one Friday, once a year! Here's how it works: You make 60 sandwiches and deliver them to Bethesda Cares on your assigned Friday morning. Bethesda Cares distributes them through their street outreach and to those who come to the office. This is a great family activity (all ages). Full instructions provided. It’s not only fun, but is an important resource for our neighbors. Interested? Please contact Liz Quinn at webethemom@aol.com.

Thursday Prayers for Peace at 12:15pm

Pray for peace in 2026. Now more than ever, we are called to work and pray for peace around the world and in our own country.  Please join us on Zoom (password 20895) every Thursday at 12:15 p.m. as we pray for a peaceful end to the war in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Congo, and the violence in Iran and Haiti; an end to violence in this country, and an end to violent conflict everywhere. (Approx. 15 mins)

16 pledges to go!

Help us reach our goal of 135 pledges today.

Thank you SO much to the 119 individuals, couples, and families who have already pledged their estimated giving for 2026.

Note: if you have a regularly scheduled donation, do let us know you plan to continue so that we can count it as a pledge for 2026.

The Intersection of Faith & Science:

Three-Part Series continues Feb. 8

Come explore the intersection of faith & science this Epiphany season, led by parishioners Chris Ours, MD, Joan Centrella, PhD, and Ann Hagan, PhD.

The next two forums will be held on February 8, and March 1 -- following the 10am service in the Parish Hall. Over the course of this series, we will ask: How do we in the Christian community think about what it means to be human, created in God’s image and existing in relationship with God and one another, in the context of scientific and technological advancements?

The second session, on February 8 will focus on Genetics; and the third, on March 1, on AI. Each session will include time for Q&A. We hope you will join us for what will surely be very interesting presentations and discussions!
