Love in Action: Racial & Social Justice

Racial & Social Justice Forum This Sunday, March 22:

Maryland’s Juvenile Justice System is Broken

Maryland charges more young people per capita as adults than any other state except Alabama, conditions in the state’s juvenile detention centers are deplorable, and public perception fueled by media coverage is that youth crime rates are ever rising.  Pat Marks from the Maryland Alliance for Justice Reform (MAJR) will join us to discuss these issues and help us understand how best to advocate for much needed changes in the system.  Ms. Marks is a Deaconess in the United Methodist Church and a dedicated criminal justice advocate. She has been an active member of MAJR since 2016 and serves on the leadership team of Putting Mercy into Criminal Justice. Read more about Pat Marks, our guest speaker, HERE.

The forum will be held in the Parish Hall after the 10:00 a.m. service this Sunday, March 22.  Childcare available. For more information, email justice@ccpk.org

All are welcome to join the Mercy Team

Lenten Book Study, Monday Evenings in Lent

Our individual relationships with Jesus are deeply personal connections. The book The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach About Jesus's Final Days in Jerusalem, by Marcus J. Borg and John Dominic Crossan, invites us to reflect on the events that took place the week of Jesus' crucifixion. Reading in community provides an opportunity to deepen your relationship and journey with Christ through this Lenten season.

This Monday March 16, we'll gather on Zoom (password = 20895)from 7 - 8:15 p.m. to discuss Chapters 5 & 6 of The Last Week.

A few copies of the book are available in the library; it is also easily available as an eBook online. All are welcome! Reach out to Lee Puricelli (leepuricelli@yahoo.com) or the Rev. Hope Christensen (hope@ccpk.org) with any questions.

Lenten Series continues this Sunday, 3/22:

Conversations about the Nature and Experience of Grief & Loss

Led by John Ward, join us in Lent to discuss the journey of grief, which impacts mind, body and spirit. This Sunday, March 22, John will discuss how we can support our loved ones and those in our lives who are grieving. We meet after the 10:00 a.m. service o in the Gathering Room. Join for any or all of the sessions. Questions? Contact John Ward.

Thursday Prayers for Peace at 12:15pm

Now more than ever, we are called to work and pray for peace around the world and in our own country.

Join our weekly Prayers for Peace during Lent (and every week). We ask God’s help for those working to end violence and conflict in an ever more turbulent world, and seek God’s mercy for civilians, soldiers, first responders, relief agencies, clergy, and all others who find themselves in harm’s way. We meet on Zoom at 12:15 (password = 20895), approximately 15 minutes. All are welcome.

Wednesday Evening Prayer in Lent

Join us for our regular evening prayer services on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom. During Lent, our reflections will come from Episcopal Relief and Development. ERD sends out daily reflections by email throughout Lent - to sign up to receive them in your inbox, visit the ERD website HERE.

This year's ERD reflections are written by Sister Monica Clare, an Episcopal nun, author and unlikely TikTok star! The reflections offer an invitation to rediscover—or deepen—holy habits of prayer, worship and engagement with Scripture. These "holy habits" provide a path to a life that is given shape, meaning and direction by being rooted in a deeper relationship with God.

Easter Flowers!

Remember or honor a loved one and help make the altar beautiful for Easter! Please use the online form found below, or the envelopes in your pew to make your Easter flower dedication, which will be printed in the Easter service bulletin. Deadline for requesting a dedication is Noon, Thursday, April 2.

Love in Action: Reaching Our Neighbors

CARROT SUNDAY

Next Carrot Sunday is EASTER

Easter bunnies and carrots go together, so plan to bring your two-pound bags of carrots to church on Easter Sunday, April 5!  They will be delivered to San Mateo on the following Wednesday morning. Ask your friends and neighbors to contribute as a way of supporting our immigrant neighbors in great need.

Monthly Food Packing at San Mateo  Volunteer to help bag groceries for distribution to families in need at San Mateo Episcopal Church in Hyattsville, MD. Our next trip will be Wed, April 8, we’ll meet in the CC parking lot, load the carrots and carpool over together. Interested? Please let Margaret Broe FitzPatrick know if you are coming by the morning of Tuesday, April 7, at magbroefitz@aol.com.

Food Justice DMV assists our immigrant neighbors with essential food and supplies. Please donate infant formula (Similac, please) and diapers (any size, but mostly sizes 4 through 6) to help. You can leave them in the hallway across from the Outreach board. We will deliver them to Food Justice at least monthly.

Save the Date! Rebuilding Together – April 25

Our annual Rebuilding Together project day will be on April 25 this year. We will be joining with four other teams to work at the National Center for Children & Families, in Bethesda.

More information to come later – for questions about Rebuilding Together, talk to or send an email to Chris Ours or Sean Quinn!
