Lenten Book Study, Monday Evenings in Lent
Our individual relationships with Jesus are deeply personal connections. The book The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach About Jesus's Final Days in Jerusalem, by Marcus J. Borg and John Dominic Crossan, invites us to reflect on the events that took place the week of before Jesus' crucifixion. Reading in community provides an opportunity to deepen your relationship and journey with Christ through this Lenten season.
Starting on Monday March 2, we'll gather on Zoom from 7 - 8:15 p.m. ET to discuss The Last Week.
A few copies of the book will be available in the library; it is also easily available as an eBook online. All are welcome! Reach out to Lee Puricelli (leepuricelli@yahoo.com) or Rev. Hope Christensen (hope@ccpk.org) with any questions.

Wednesday Evening Prayer in Lent
Join us for our regular evening prayer services on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom. During Lent, our reflections will come from Episcopal Relief and Development. ERD sends out daily reflections by email throughout Lent - to sign up to receive them in your inbox, visit the ERD website HERE.
This year's ERD reflections are written by Sister Monica Clare, an Episcopal nun, author and unlikely TikTok star! The reflections offer an invitation to rediscover—or deepen—holy habits of prayer, worship and engagement with Scripture. These "holy habits" provide a path to a life that is given shape, meaning and direction by being rooted in a deeper relationship with God.

Love in Action: Racial & Social Justice
All are welcome to join the Mercy Team
Support the vulnerable in the current political crisis and put your faith into action. To join the Mercy Team distribution list, contact Cynthia Mitchell at justice@ccpk.org or Thea Kayne at theakayne@gmail.com. This is the best way to find out about emerging needs and a variety of ways to get involved.
Care Pod 2:
The Mercy Team has formed a second “Care Pod” to support a family in our area who has been impacted by ICE detentions or deportations. The family with whom we are working is an extended family of 13 individuals, grappling with a range of challenges. We are offering logistical, spiritual, financial, and material assistance.
You can help by making donations to fulfill a continuing need for:
-
Diapers: sizes 3 & 6. Please leave along the back wall in hallway just before you enter the Sanctuary.
-
Grocery Gift Cards: Safeway or Giant; leave gift cards in box on the Outreach table in the hallway just before you enter the Sanctuary.
-
Your time: we need one or two people to deliver supplies to families in need; no more than two trips per month for the next 3-6 months; timing is flexible; and you will be accompanied by one of our volunteers who knows the family for your first delivery. Contact Thea Kayne (theakayne@gmail.com), if you are interested.

February is Black History Month
Black History is American History. And remembering is our sacred responsibility. Arturo A. Schomburg (January 24, 1874 – June 19, 1938), a Puerto Rican of African and German descent, was a historian, writer, curator and activist, who wrote numerous books. As a young man, he was told that Black people had no significant history. He devoted himself to disproving this assertion by gathering literature, art, slave narratives, and other artifacts related to African history. These collections now form the foundation of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public Library in Harlem.
People of African descent have had to tell their own stories not just in the US, but around the world. Consequently, Black History Month is celebrated far beyond the US borders. CLICK HERE for examples of how communities worldwide honor the achievements and impact of people of African descent.
