Love in Action: Reaching Our Neighbors

NEXT SUNDAY, February 8th!

The Inaugural Second Sunday

CARROT COLLECTION at CHRIST CHURCH!

On Sun. Feb 8th, bring two-pound bags of carrots to church for our neighbors who need our support, love, …and fresh vegetables. We aim to collect 250 two-pound bags of carrots to include in the monthly distribution at San Mateo. Bring one, two, or as many as feels right. Get creative! Ask your neighbors to purchase a bag and bring it along with your carrots to church.

Monthly Grocery Packing

Join us to help bag groceries (including the carrots!) for distribution at San Mateo Episcopal Church in Hyattsville, MD. The next visit will be Wednesday, February 11.  Interested? Please let Margaret Fitzpatrick know if you are coming by the Tuesday morning before. (magbroefitz@aol.com)

Formula, Diapers, Vols and $: Ongoing Support for our neighbors!

Donations of baby formula and diapers are as needed as ever. Place in bins in the hallway off the back of the sanctuary. They will be delivered at least monthly to Food Justice DMV. Food Justice also needs monetary donations, 100% of which go to purchase food and supplies for neighbors in crisis. You can do so on their website, or simply make a donation through Realm, choose the Food Justice fund. Have some time? Volunteer to make deliveries. Interested? Please contact Thea Kayne.

Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday Celebration!

February 17, 5:30 pm - 7:30pm

Pancakes! Fun! Fellowship!

Serving hotcakes with gluten-free options and other delicious items.

We will also have plenty of fun games for the children.

It takes a village to make this event happen - we provide the food, but need more volunteers to help with set-up, cooking/serving, and clean-up.  Please use the link below to sign up.

Come for dinner, wear your beads, bring a neighbor, bring the whole family. It's a night you won't want to miss!

(A free-will offering will happily be accepted if you want to donate to help offset some of the costs of this meal, however all are welcome - please join us!)

Bring Back Your Palms for Burning!

Did you know that the ashes for Ash Wednesday are created by burning the dried palms from prior years' Palm Sunday services?

Please help us by bringing back any palms you have at home and placing them in the basket at the rear of the church.

Ash Wednesday is Wednesday, February 18 - Just over 2 weeks away!

Care Pod Support for ICE-Affected Families

The Mercy Team has formed a “Care Pod” - a circle of care and support - for a family of four with urgent needs following the deportation of a loved one. Please click HERE to find out more about what the Care Pod is, and does.

Watch this email in the future for information about specific items to contribute to help us support the family.

There are hundreds of families in crisis in our area.

If you would like to have a major impact on the well-being of a family in crisis, please consider volunteering to be part of a second Care Pod. Email Thea Kayne for more information.

A Message from Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe:

Support emergency migration ministry

Dear people of God in The Episcopal Church: As the situation in the United States grows more fraught, The Episcopal Church is working to find new ways to care for God’s people in our immigrant communities. Many of you have asked how you can help. Read more. (In English and Spanish)

February is Black History Month

The 2026 Black History Month theme, "A Century of Black History Commemorations" marks the 100th anniversary of celebrations of Black history across the USA.

Historian Carter G. Woodson has been called the “Father of Black History” as he began “Negro History Week” in February 1926, to highlight the contributions of Black Americans that had previously been omitted from mainstream historical accounts.  In 1976, the observance became a month-long event, coinciding with America’s bicentennial celebration.  Carter G. Woodson, an American historian, scholar, and author, was the second African American after W.E.B. Du Bois to earn a PhD from Harvard. He taught at Howard University and spent most of his life in Washington, DC.

To honor this milestone, you can visit the Library of Congress all month for a special display celebrating a century of Black History commemorations, or stop by your local Montgomery County Library.

Love in Action: Faith & Spiritual Growth

The third session will be March 11 and focus on AI.

Christ Church Libraries--

Time to "Book" Your Trip!

Of course, you'll find the best selling book of all time in the Christ Church Library. You have access to multiple versions of the bible.

But there's more to the Christ Church Library than the bible.

In the sunny southeastern corner of church, hundreds of books await you. You'll discover books written by Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde and Christ Church's own Rev. Dr. Kortright Davis, plus titles recommended by the Racial and Social Justice Team. And of course, books about church history, prayer, and music line the shelves. There's even a fiction section where you'll see the entire collection of the popular Mitford series by Jan Karon, including her recently released "My Beloved."

Down the hall, books for children and youth along with a comfy sofa and little rocking chairs surround the perimeter of the Christ Church Library for Children.

Checking out a book will remind many parishioners of trips to the library back in the last century. You need to sign a card to take the book home with you. (No clicking or scanning required.)

If you need help in any way, reach out to Christ Church's professional librarians who lovingly care for the collection: Sharon Bartram, Mary Lou Cumberpatch, and Kathy Slack.

The Christ Church Library and the Christ Church Children's Library are open every day that the Church is open. No appointment needed, so come on in, grab a book from the shelves, and discover more about faith and life.

Thursday Prayers for Peace at 12:15pm
