The Advent Season is the beginning of the Church Year, so what does this season mean?  It is ambiguous!  Advent is penitential, but it isn't.  It is a time to reflect and repent of sin, but is also a time to be joyful.  Like Lent, the "Gloria" is dropped, but unlike Lent the "Alleluias" remain in the Liturgy.  In our sanctuary purple is used during Advent, as it during Lent, but unique to Advent blue also adorns the surroundings of the Altar.  Purple as a sign of penance, blue as a sign for joyful expectation for the coming of Christ!
The Advent Season is a good opportunity to examine our lives and explore new ways to strengthen our prayer life through personal prayer and receiving the Sacraments of the Church.  It is also a time to be thankful for all the good things we have in our lives which are blessings from God.  To be thankful for our families and friends, and most of all to be thankful for the Divine Son of God, Jesus Christ, who loves us and desires to draw all humanity to his love.  It is by accepting God's love we receive the ability to love others and ourselves!
Advent Blessings,

Fr. Justin

                    Capital Fund Update!

Thanks to the generosity of parishioners and friends who are giving to the Capital Campaign Fund, we have been able to restore the emergency stair cases outside of the parish house and choir room!   Stair cases outside of parish house were decaying and needed paint and the stairs outside of choir room were beginning to rust.   Those who would like information or contribute to the fund may do so at any time, which will ensure the continuation of such upkeep!   Write to Christ Church, PO Box 97, Somers Point NJ 08244 or e-mail [email protected], attention to Jennifer Martucci.
