HIGHLIGHTS

Summer Mission Trip Highlights

Christ Covenant sent out four mission teams this past summer. Thank you to the many members who prayed and financially supported these teams. Below you can read some highlights from each of these trips. If you are interested in learning more about these summer mission trips or would like to particpate in future mission trips with Christ Covenant, please contact Kelsey Cawthorn at kcawthorn@christcovenant.org.

San José del Cabo, Mexico
Our Mexico Mission team traveled to San José del Cabo, Mexico this July. During our time in San José, we worshipped with two congregations, provided a marriage seminar for two congregations, attended a youth gathering consisting of multiple churches, led three evenings of Vacation Bible School on the topic of Jesus' miracles and resurrection, and participated in the construction of the manse of the Presbyterian church named "Fuente de Vida" (translated "Fountain of Life") in San José del Cabo. We also sought to strengthen our collaboration with the work of the local pastors and assist Pedro Pollorena, our pastoral intern, to have strong connections with pastors living in the city in which he hopes to plant a church in the coming years. We hope to continue the work and relationships that we have begun in San José in future years. -Stewart Neely

Kenya, Africa
The Kenya mission trip was a team of teachers from Christ Covenant. We partnered with Pastor Imbumi and Martha Makuku to train and to equip Kenyan teachers who teach children who have experienced extreme poverty and very difficult lives. This team had the privilege of going to Kenya to equip teachers in classroom management, to train teachers in the new curriculum the Kenyan government has mandated, and to equip teachers how to teach math and science. This trip was truly helpful for the teachers who do not have a lot of formal training and access to materials, which are things we have plenty of here in Matthews, North Carolina. -Karen Chambers

Atlantic City, New Jersey
A team of students and adults from Christ Covenant went to Atlantic City to assist Peter Eck at New City Fellowship in various ministry opportunities and service projects. Some service projects were assisting widows in their community by driving them to appointments, encouraging them during a meal, and helping with yard work. Additional ministry outreach included a Vacation Bible School for children in low income neighborhoods. The team also did door to door evangelism to share the good news of the gospel. This trip also included training team and church members on how to work with the materially poor and how to effectively help them. -David Chambers

Fairfield, Connecticut
Christ Covenant sent a small team to partner with our sister church, Christ Presbyterian Church (CPC) Fairfield and another partner church from City Church Manchester the last week of June. Together we participated with CPC Fairfield during their "Good Week," which was a week of outreach ministry to the community. It was an amazing, Christ honoring week where we shared the gospel and helped organize a Vacation Bible School for over 40 children! In an area where gospel community is scarce, we were able to come alongside CPC to worship together and strengthen this church plant. Hearts were touched by the gospel, and the bonds of fellowship and community were bolstered and strengthened. -Marti Deacon

Blessing of the Children
Sunday, August 25

The pastors and elders of Christ Covenant invite all parents and all students who will be attending school this fall (elementary through college) to pick up a prayer card located on any of the tables at any of the exits of the worship center, fill it out, and present it to an elder during the evening service on Sunday, August 25. We will have a special time of prayer for all our school-aged children during this service.

RTS Paideia Center Book Discussion
September 11

In partnership with the RTS Paideia Center for Theological Discipleship, Christ Covenant is hosting a theological reading group this Fall. Do you desire a rich theological diet so you can develop maturity in Christ? Do you want to read Christian classics but don't know where to start? Would you like to grow with people who share your love for theology and learn from those who have gone before you? If so, register at http://paideiacenter.com/. In the Fall, we will read a book
from the early church and one from the Reformation era in the Spring. The theme for this year's readings is "soul care." This Fall's group will meet three times (September 11, October
9, November 13) from 7:00-8:30pm with a guided discussion of Gregory the Great's The Book of Pastoral Rule.

Women's Ministry Fall Kick Off
September 17

All women are invited to join us on Tuesday, September 17, at 7pm in the CLC to "Celebrate Milestones: Then and Now" at Christ Covenant! Come dressed in fashion from the decade in which you were born, and be ready for fun games and prizes!
We will look back with Bernie and Pat Lawrence at the Lord's faithfulness through the years and look forward with anticipation to the years to come. As a part of looking forward to future ministry, we will use the evening to bless and encourage our interns and their families by bringing an item(s) to give them as they begin their journey in ministry. RTS Students Need Housing

Reformed Theological Seminary's student body is growing! We are currently searching for housing options for new students as they move to Charlotte. If you have an above-garage apartment, a spare room, or a rental property, would you prayerfully consider renting to a seminary student? Helping house our students is a wonderful way to partner with RTS as we train our students for ministry. For more information, please contact Katy McIlvaine in the RTS admissions office: kmcilvaine@rts.edu or 704-688-4220.
