Christ Church had the privilege of welcoming several new members at last Sunday’s service. John and Linda Guy and Brad and Ruth Hauff were received into our community of worship on Sunday, October 15th at the 10:30 a.m. service. Please take a moment to introduce yourselves to our new members and extend a warm welcome when you see them!
|
|
Join us Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10:00 a.m. to noon for LEM and Lector Training!
|
|
Please plan to be part of an insightful session about how to convey our Bible readings to our congregation. Even if you're a seasoned lector, you will want to be a part of this training. Our own Molly Weiss is a talented facilitator and she is fabulous at this training. Please respond to Patricia Pratt at
p_l_pratt@Hotmail.com if you plan to attend.
FYI - This is also the same day as the St. Mary's Guild Country Store and Luncheon, so you could do the training and then have lunch!

Snow Removal Volunteers Needed!
|
We need four snow removal teams of two volunteers each. Teams are only responsible for snow removal one week a month. The critical days are Wednesday evenings (for Wednesday Night Live) and Sunday mornings before the services.
We only need to clear a path on the walkway from the parking lot to the lower entry door and to keep the main upper entry cleared of snow. We close the steps from the parking lot during the winter.
We have shovels, brooms, ice melt and a snow blower. All we need now are volunteers!
If you are willing to help, please contact Pierre LePere, Rodger Pereyra, or Denny Davis. Thank you!

What is an AED? An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest. Our AED is located on the top landing of the stairwell. It is designed to be VERY user friendly, usable by any adult. It is fully automatic and talks the user through every step of the defibrillation process. You do not necessarily need training to use the AED, but we will be conducting some information sessions. Christ Church’s Emergency Preparedness Committee is working on additional training for point people and opportunities for anyone to become more familiar with the unit.
The first opportunity will be at next Sunday's Adult Forum. Come and learn more about this life saving device.

Prayers for Amara and the Strande Family
|
Beloved Christ Church family member Amara Strande underwent surgery last Thursday to remove a mass on her liver. Your continued prayers are needed now as Amara remains in the ICU while her body heals.
Please hold Amara and her family in love and prayer during this time. For updates on Amara's journey, the Strande family has set up a CaringBridge page. Click the link below, then enter your email address, name, and create an account to follow updates:
|
|
|
Friends of the Strande family have also set up a
GoFundMe page
for donations to help with the expense of Amara's surgery and ongoing care. From the site:
"We do not yet know what the path to full health looks like for Amara, but we do know her journey will be an uphill battle for some time to come. Though her parents, Mike and Dana, do have insurance, the deductibles, out of pocket maximums and co-pay expenses are anticipated to be significant.
Amara’s family is so thankful for the prayers that surround them. They feel so blessed for the support of their family, friends, and community during this difficult time. I know many wish they could do more. Please consider donating to help alleviate the worry over finances as Mike and Dana’s medical team takes the steps necessary to bring Amara to full health."

Habitat for Humanity Update
Last week, members of Christ Church participated in a Habitat for Humanity work camp coordinated by Pierre LePere for All Saints Lutheran Church of Cottage Grove. From October 2-4, volunteers including
Pierre, Pastor Anna, James Elam, Jim Forman, and Mary Lee Isely joined volunteers from All Saints and Easter Lutheran Church of Eagan working on a new home being built in South St. Paul. The team assisted in building and installing interior steps, interior walls and roof sheathing on the new home. Much was accomplished and all enjoyed the fresh fall air, physical exercise and fellowship. It was great making new acquaintances and volunteering with members of two other local churches. A total of 36 volunteers contributed 288 hours toward the construction of the new home. Thank you to all who participated in our effort to provide affordable housing for those in need and to further the Outreach Ministry of Christ Church. We are planning future opportunities to participate in Habitat projects, and we hope to have even more Christ Church volunteers in our next effort!

Music Notes
Potential Choir Members, Cantors and Choir Members:
You are all invited to join our music ministry in singing for our
9:30 a.m. combined service on Stewardship
Sunday, October 29 and our 7:00 p.m. Service of Remembrance on Thursday, November 2.
We will have 2 rehearsals to prepare for these services. Our rehearsals are on
Thursday, October 19 and Thursday, October 26 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. We will be reviewing music for these services on October 19 and fine-tune the music on October 26. If you can't make the rehearsal on October 19, you are still welcome to join us on the 26th!
If you're interested in trying out our choir, this would be a great opportunity to see what our music ministry is all about. Instrumentalists are also welcome, but please let Chris know in advance so packets of instrumental music can be prepared.

The Christ Church Faith in Film Series Continues with:
FAITH LIKE POTATOES
Friday, November 3 @ 7:00 p.m.
Based on a true story, "Faith Like Potatoes" is a 2006 South African movie about Angus Buchan, a Zambian farmer of Scottish descent who moves his family to South Africa to begin a new life. And after reluctantly attending a church service, his life really starts over. One reviewer compares the film to "Chariots of Fire" writing "they both use words very sparingly. They attempted to SHOW faith at work in someone's life rather than tell about it. And I think they succeeded." And I like this line from the movie: "The condition for a miracle is difficulty. However the condition for a great miracle is not difficulty but impossibility." I don't want to give away any spoilers so I hope that's enough for you to come and see it. We always have treats! - Jim Lee
