Pastor Andy Writes...

Some of you are aware that I serve on the Board of Directors for the Kansas District LCMS. I serve on the board as the chair of the circuit visitors. This is my second three-year term serving on the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is divided into four service boards. This triennium I am on the Board of Caring Ministry.

“The primary purpose of the Board of Caring Ministry is to support the called workers of the District together with their families; to encourage called workers in their ministry; to enhance the quality of their lives; and thereby, to empower healthy workers to increase the spiritual health of the congregations. A secondary purpose is to support congregations in disaster relief and particular aspects of human care.”

There are task forces and committees that this board oversees to fulfill this purpose. There is the Church Worker Care Committee. There is a committee that facilitates a Pastor’s wives retreat. There is the Older Adult Ministry Committee. Then there are two coordinators: the District Disaster Coordinator and the Life Ministry Coordinator. Today I will share an article from the Parish Nurse Task Force. If you would like more information about the Kansas District you can go to the website. (KSLCMS.org)

October is Bullying Prevention Month

Bullying is a serious issue that affects individuals of all ages, especially children and teens. It involves repeated aggressive behavior—verbal, physical, or social—that aims to intimidate or harm others. Bullying can occur in schools, workplaces, communities, and online (cyberbullying), often leaving deep emotional scars.

Victims of bullying may experience anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and difficulty trusting others. In some cases, bullying can lead to academic struggles, social withdrawal, or even self-harm. Recognizing the signs—such as sudden changes in behavior, avoiding social situations, or declining performance—is key to early intervention.

Preventing bullying starts with fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and inclusion. Schools, families, and communities should promote open communication, educate about the effects of bullying, and encourage bystanders to speak up. No one should suffer in silence. Together, we can create safe environments where everyone feels valued and protected. If you see something, say something—kindness matters.
