Membership
What does it take to be a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church? This is a good question. The answer I give is that you need to show up, contribute, and participate. This is really the fundamental requirement for belonging to any organization. Now there are some specific things that are unique to being a member of a church.
Membership at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church also involves a commitment to spiritual growth and community. Members are encouraged to attend worship services regularly, partake in Holy Communion, and engage in prayer and Bible study. There is an expectation to live according to the teachings of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. These teachings are governed by the Bible which is the inspired inerrant Word of God. We celebrate together that we are saved by grace through faith in our Jesus Christ. Also, we support the church's mission through volunteer work and financial offerings. By fostering a spirit of fellowship, members contribute to a nurturing and supportive church environment where everyone can grow in their faith.
Our current constitution lists three types of membership. We have Baptized members, communicant members and voting members. Baptized members include all who have been baptized in the name of the Triune God and have been placed under the pastoral care of this congregation. Confirmed Members are baptized individuals who meet the congregation's Confirmation requirements. Membership can also be gained through reaffirmation, the profession of faith, or transfer from another Lutheran congregation. Confirmed Members should use the Word of God, attend worship, celebrate Baptism, and frequently partake in Communion. They are expected to show their Christian faith through their lifestyle and contributions of time, talent, and treasure. All Confirmed Members must agree to follow the Church Constitution. Saying this, we are in the process of updating the church constitution.
Still the best answer for what it takes to be a member is to show up, contribute and participate. As a congregation we do all things to glory of God. All good and perfect gifts come from God. Using the gifts God gives us we work together as the body of Christ. Each of us working together as members of this congregation can accomplish much in Jesus name.
