A Message From Pastor Mike
As I was getting ready for work Monday morning, it sounded like a squadron of airplanes were in a holding pattern over our house. All of the buzzing engine noise turned out to be the neighbor's lawn crew. A platoon of leaf blowers in tactical formation moved through the neighbor's yard and cleared it of all the leaves. With military precision the leaves were rounded up, loaded into a truck, and taken away as captives. In less time than it takes to drink a cup of coffee, the neighbor's crew restored the lawn to its original condition. When they left, no one would have known that there was ever a leaf in the yard.

I don't have a lawn crew. I've got a rake. I've been thinking about getting the rake out and hitting the few areas in the yard where leaves accumulate. Even though I don't have to rake the whole yard, it's still going to be a lot of work and take a long time. I'm starting to think that a phone call to a lawn crew is a better option than raking it myself.

The contrast between my rake and what a lawn crew can accomplish can illustrate the difference between relying on my own righteousness and relying on the righteousness of Christ. Through my own determination I may be able to clean up a few areas of my life, but it is the righteousness of Christ that cleans up my whole life. I can work on a few things, but Jesus clears the whole thing. The righteousness of Christ is so powerful that when God looks at the lives of those who have faith in Jesus God sees lives that look like they've just been cleared by a lawn crew. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus deals with sin as completely and mightily as though it was nothing more than leaves to loaded up and hauled away.

Next time you're thinking about taking a rake to your life call on the righteousness of Christ instead.

"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Final Week to Help with Gifts for CSL Christmas Store
Each year, families and parents experience the joy of shopping for the perfect Christmas gift at CSL's Christmas Store. We have two ways you can help make sure those families have appropriate gifts to choose from.

The CSL wish tree is up in the Narthex and is full of tags with specific items you can purchase.  Pick a tag or two off of the tree, purchase the items, place the UNWRAPPED items under the tree no later than December 8th.  Darla Pummil will take care of getting those items over to the CSL Christmas store.

If you'd rather not choose a specific gift tag off the tree, we are also hosting a  barrel drive. The collection barrel is located in the old Narthex area. Place your UNWRAPPED new toys or gifts in the collection barrel between now and December 6th.
It's a Wonderful Day for ..... what?
The movie "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" about a portion of Mr. Rogers life should be in your favorite theater now. Makers of the film authorized the Discipleship Ministries of The UMC to develop a Faith-Based packet of discussion ideas.  Rev. Bob Hickman will lead that discussion here at Christ UMC. It gives us a chance to look at "neighborhood values".  The session held in room 126 is offered two times:  Monday, Dec 9 at 6:30pm or Wednesday, Dec 11 at 10:00am. Please plan to come. You might grow spiritually.
Sign-up is encouraged so that we can have the proper space and amount of hand-out information. There is a sign up sheet on the counter in the narthex (lobby) or you may email   bob.hickman@icumc.org or text at 816-694-1059. Bob will we happy to answer your advance questions.
Christmas Singalong & Stories
You're invited for relaxing Christmas fun singing songs and hearing a few stories. Bob and Pam Hickman will lead on Monday, December 16 at 6:30pm or Wednesday, December 18 at 10:00am in the choir room, #126. Invite your friends. Please let us know if you're coming by text (816-694-1059), email  bob.hickman@icumc.org  or by signing up at the welcome center.
