This newsletter is a little longer than usual as we highlight many of the events of both February and March. With the school year almost behind us, it is a great time to pause and reflect on this wonderful upcoming season of Easter. We are especially grateful to Caroline Bode, a kindergarten student in KB on the Canal Street campus for her artwork.

Moms Enjoy Ladies' Day at the Races
Christian Brothers School moms enjoyed the annual Ladies' Day at the Races at the Fair Grounds and helped celebrate the Christian Brothers race with the winning jockey, pictured below.

Second Graders Make First Communion
Fifty-three second graders, under direction of homeroom teachers Nancy Giacone and Bethany Carrigee, completed preparations and made their First Confession and then their First Communion at St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Second graders gathered in the sanctuary at St. Anthony of Padua during their First Communion Mass.

Second graders were joined by Father John Dominic Sims, OP, for a "Breaking Bread" lunch to help celebrate their milestone in preparation and reception of the sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion. For the lunch, the children used placemats and plates they had made during the year, and special commemorative cups and rosaries were at their places as well.

7th Grader Wins State Wrestling Meet
Spencer Lanosga (7P) won the USAW Louisiana Folkstyle State Tournament at Raising Cane's River Center on March 30. Spencer competed in the Cadet 220 division, wrestling up an age group.

Teachers, Family Help Serve at St. Jude
Christian Brothers School faculty were joined by some family members to offer a day of service feeding homeless at the St. Jude Community Center. 3rd Annual Tennis Tournament
It was "Aloha" for the 3rd Annual Ladies' Club Tennis Tournament as participants arrived in Hawaiian attire for the day of fun at the City Park courts. The tournament boasted 67 teams, and unlike some years, the ladies enjoyed beautiful weather.
Tracey Tarleton, tournament co-chair, and Maria Tremé sported colorful leis as they prepared to enjoy their tennis match at the Ladies' Club tournament.

CBS Students Place at State Science Fair
|
Noah Broussard (7P) placed third in the Louisiana Science and Engineering Fair in the Energy category for his project "Can You Please Keep the Noise Down."
|
Grace Wallace and Briley Pippen, both in 7W, won a First Place award from the Society of Women Engineers and a fourth place overall in the Louisiana Science and Engineering Fair held at LSU. Their project "Who Let the Food Out" was in the Engineering category.

Pauli Competes at State Geography Bee
|
Ben Pauli (7M) was one of 100 students from throughout the state to compete as finalists in the National Geographic Geography Bee contest on March 29 in Baton Rouge. He was the winner at the school's Geography Bee and scored well on the written test to qualify for the state finals.

Olivia Pierce (5G) was a Bronze medal winner for her speech "If I Were a Flower."

Krewe of Little Falcons Parades
Pre-kindergarten students, with a little help from parents, paraded as the Krewe of Little Falcons just before Mardi Gras in the Canal Street campus yard. Principal Richard Neider served as king, Sr. Ruth Angelette, OP, was queen, and president Joey Scaffidi was parade captain.

Four Students Win at Academic Rally
Four City Park campus students won trophies in Academic Rally held at Archbishop Rummel High School. Noah St. Germain (7P) won third place in Science, William Bellot (7T) won third place in Math, Brady Luminais (7P) took a third place award in English, and Peter Le (7T) won a second place in English, third place in Social Studies and a second place award in overall championship competition.

2 Qualify for Academic Nationals
Charles Garitty (7T) placed 11th overall and Andrew Duncan (6F), 15th overall, both qualified for the Academic Games National Tournament to be held in late April in Orlando. Duncan also placed third in Onsets while Alex Darcey (6C) had a perfect score in Onsets. The CBS Elementary team placed second in Onsets.

Grilletta Tours Saints, Pelicans Facility
|
Alex Grilletta (7M), accompanied by his mom and dad Kimberly and Michael Grilletta, had the opportunity to tour the Ochsner Sports Performance Center, home of the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans and got an up-close look at the Saints' Lombardi Trophy. The trip was one of the auction items at last fall's gala and was hosted by seventh grade home room teacher Doug Moreau.

In LEMA Vocal Competition

Hunter Nastasi and Kolbe Peters received Superior ratings in recent LEMA vocal competition.
|
Hunter Nastasi (2017) and Kolbe Peters (2018) received Superior ratings as members of the Brother Martin High School Chorus participated in the Louisiana Music Educators' Association Solo and Ensemble Assessment held at Archbishop Chapelle High School. Nastasi, at left, performed "Where'er You Walk" and Peters sang "Per la Gloria d'Adorarvi" and earned the right to compete at the State Vocal Rally. Their selections were evaluated for tone, intonation, diction, technique, interpretation and musical effect.
