Sen. Hawley
Deplores Push for Late-Term Abortions

Newly elected Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley has condemned "the rising tide of barbarism and cruelty" evinced by the recent nationwide legislative agenda to legalize late-term abortions.

Senator Hawley took to the Senate floor last week to deliver remarks in support of a bill called the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

The legislation, sponsored by Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska, would criminalize the failure of an abortionist to provide diligent care to a child who survives an attempted abortion.

In remarks that were both eloquent and edifying, Hawley took a long look back at the history of human civilization in which the "strong prey upon the weak, the few rule the many, and individual lives don't count."

Hawley recounted the brutal human indignity resulting from the ritual of child sacrifice practiced in societies ranging from the Romans, Aztecs, Mayans, and Inca cultures.

Hawley shared that the founding of the United States involved "a revolutionary creed" that defied "the drift of history."

"Our Constitution was written and the whole edifice of American liberty depended on the belief that every life matters...that every person has dignity and worth."

"That worth is not given to one by the strong or the rich, or from the state or the city, or based on one's birth or social status.  It is one's by right because of who one is--a human being created in the image of the living God," Hawley continued.

Last week President Trump also offered some of the strongest pro-life remarks ever made by a President at a State of the Union address in response to the late-term abortion debate.

"There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our nation saw in recent days."

"Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments before birth."

"These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world.  Let us reaffirm a fundamental truth: all children, born and unborn, are made in the holy image of God."

President Trump echoed those sentiments at the National Day of Prayer breakfast last week.

He said: "Every life is sacred, and every soul is a precious gift from heaven.  As the Lord says in Jeremiah, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.  Before you were born, I set you apart.'"

 Wagner Introduces
Bill to Protect
Abortion Survivors

Missouri Congresswoman Ann Wagner has introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives which would penalize doctors for failing to provide necessary care to infants who survive an abortion.  The bill is similar to a proposal recently introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska.

The bill is known as the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.  If enacted into law, it would mandate that a doctor exercise "skill, care, and diligence" to preserve the life of a child who is born alive following an attempted abortion.

There is already a federal law on the books known as the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which was adopted by Congress in 2002.  However, that law failed to include any enforcement mechanisms, which the latest bill incorporates.  The intentional killing of an infant born alive could result in a prison sentence of up to 5 years.

"I have been horrified to watch radical legislators argue that babies who survive abortions should not be given the same level of medical care that all other newborns receive," Representative Wagner says.  "Congress must act to protect those who cannot protect themselves."

"This is the simplest vote a member of Congress will ever take," Wagner added.  "Either you support babies being killed after they are born, or you don't.  It is time to go on the record and make clear if you think babies born alive deserve medical care, or if you think they should be left to die."

Capitol Hill has become engulfed in a swirling debate over late-term abortions following the introduction of a bill in Virginia that would allow abortions up to and including the time the birthing process begins.  Virginia delegate Kathy Tran admitted that her proposal would allow a preborn child to be killed even as a woman is dilated and labor has begun.

Disgraced Virginia Governor Ralph Notham went even further in embracing the concept that a child could be left to die after he or she is born "if that's what the mother and family desired."  In one of the most shocking annals in the history of the abortion debate in America, liberal lawmakers and the ultraliberal media have nodded at Notham's defense of infanticide.

The Virginia controversy followed the passage in New York State of a radical abortion-on-demand law pushed by militant pro-abortion Governor Andrew Cuomo.  That new law suspended virtually all restrictions and regulations on abortion, and explicitly authorized any and all abortions throughout the duration of a woman's pregnancy.
Desperate to defend such barbaric conduct, many extreme abortion apologists have resorted to the longstanding fiction that most late-term abortions are performed because the unborn child has a "fatal fetal anomaly."  Yet even Planned Parenthood's own research partner, the Guttmacher Institute, has documented that such claims are untrue.

A 2013 study by Guttmacher found that most women seeking late-term abortions fit one of five profiles:  1) they were raising children alone; 2) they were using illicit drugs or were depressed; 3) they were in conflict with their male partner; 4) they had delayed their decision to abort; or 5) they were young and had never given birth before.

Dr. Mike Chupp, the Executive Vice President of the Christian Medical Assocation (CMA), says that "this is where the deceptive devaluing of human life leads."  "Abortion advocates began by saying a developing baby is just a 'blob of tissue', ignoring ultrasound images that show babies with beating hearts moving in the womb.  Now they say that no one can restrict abortion even at the point of birth, ignoring how utterly repulsive this is to the American people."

Dr. Gene Rudd, an obstetrician-gynecologist who is Senior Vice President of the CMA, says that there are always two patients in pregnancy.  "If a pregnancy needs to come to an end in the late months, a delivery can be accomplished.  The only reason to do an abortion is to produce a dead baby.  Has our society become so heartless that we will condone the killing of babies capable of living apart from their mothers?"

Jonathan Imbody, the Vice President for Government Relations at CMA, says that the abortion industry is succeeding at "radicalizing" legislatures across the country.  "These politicians are so beholden to the abortion lobby that they will support and even celebrate legislation that a huge majority of Americans find gut-wrenchingly abhorrent.  Remember this the next time you go to the polls."
