Hundreds jam Mt. Paran Church to say goodbye to 104.7/The Fish

Eugene Comer has spent the past quarter century listening to 104.7/The Fish. On his way to his bank teller job each morning, he said, the station “gets my spirit filled,” and when he returns home “it gets refilled.”

So Comer was devastated when he heard on New Year’s Eve that the station will shut down Friday. When he heard that the staff was holding a farewell party Saturday at Mt. Paran Church in Atlanta, he got there just after noon. He was surprised to see a lengthy line already there waiting to meet the morning show team of Kevin Avery and Taylor Scott, who have been with the station since it launched in 2000.

When Comer, a 68-year-old Stone Mountain resident, finally reached Avery and Scott, he asked to huddle with them and quietly sang a snippet of the Lauren Daigle song “Be Okay.”

“The Lord told me to do that,” Comer said moments later. “They helped me get through the passing of my wife six years ago after 19 happy years of marriage.”

Comer hopes they find a new home and said he believes they will “have more audience than they ever have before. Whoever takes them will be blessed.”

The Fish’s parent company, Salem Media Group, is trying to reduce debt, so it sold its eight FM music stations to Educational Media Foundation, owner of K-LOVE and Air1, for $80 million. Ai1 told the Atlanta Christian Web that it will be the new format on 104.7 as of February 1. The Fish name will be no more.

But Salem was kind enough to allow the Atlanta staff to hold a going-away party at one of its biggest supporters, Mt. Paran Church. Val Carolin, the station general manager, who will stay on to run Salem’s multiple AM talk stations in Atlanta, said several advertisers wanted to hold the party, but he thought turning it into a commercial endeavor would be wrong. He thought it made a lot more sense for a faith-based station such as Fish to hold the event at a church instead.

Employees emptied the station’s merchandise closet, taking anything connected to the Fish to the event and giving it all away: signage, tablecloths, T-shirts, Frisbees, lanyards, bumper stickers and even nail files embossed with the Fish logo.

“I Haven’t Had a Record Touch Me like That in So Long”: Jelly Roll Talks “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” Worship, and Collaboration With Brandon Lake

Faith has played a central role in Jelly Roll’s rise to country music stardom. His industry debut, Whitsitt Chapel, delved into themes of spirituality, sin, and redemption. So it makes sense that the Antioch, Tennessee-raised artist (born Jason DeFord) would choose Brandon Lake for his latest collaboration. Lake is currently tearing up the contemporary Christian charts with “Hard Fought Hallelujah.” And when Jelly Roll heard the song, it stirred up something within him that he knew he had to lean into.

Part of Jelly Roll’s appeal lies in his steadfast commitment to honesty, especially when it comes to his past. He doesn’t gloss over his past battles with incarceration and substance abuse. In a recent conversation with collaborator Brandon Lake, the “Need a Favor” singer revealed that his walk with God hasn’t always been a straight line.

Jelly also firmly believes that “music meets us where we are.” That’s what “Hard Fought Hallelujah” did for him, and what he hopes to do by teaming up with Lake.

“I haven’t had a record touch me like that in so long,” Jelly told Lake. “It’s been years since I worshipped the way that I worshipped to that song.”

He continued, “I needed that record when I heard it, but then to double back and be like, ‘Yo, there’s a chance you could work on this record with this guy.’ And I’m like, ‘Whoa, God sends me this record, and not only does He want me to listen to it and worship, He wants me to live with it and learn it.”

SEPH SCHLUETER

Releases Brand New Song “Words We’ll Sing Forever”

It is Seph Schlueter's (pronounced "shleeter") deep passion to awaken people's hearts, help lead others into an encounter with Jesus, and give language to a relationship with God through his music. Follow his socials and you'll quickly see his heart for the Lord along with his endearing personality. Before joining the Provident Entertainment family in 2023, he released his music independently, opened for artists such as Brandon Lake and Phil Wickham, and began the group Damascus Worship when he saw the need for worship and revival in the Catholic Church.

In 2024, Seph released his debut major label (EP), "Counting My Blessings," which offers organic pop sensibilities and relatable lyrics that speak to his all-consuming love for Jesus. The title track “Counting My Blessings” has become a global sensation and has amassed more than 5B short-form video views, 81M global streams, 2.6M TikTok creations, and 25.6M views on YouTube. The song has also peaked at #1 on all four Christian radio charts. Seph was recognized as Christian Music Broadcaster’s Breakout Artist of 2024 and won the KLOVE Fan Award for Breakout Single of the Year. He was nominated at the Doves for the first time in the New Artist as well as Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year (“Counting My Blessings”). (Forrest Frank won both.)

Seph begins 2025 with a brand new song, “Words We’ll Sing Forever.” “As someone who grew up in the Church, the most powerful songs for me were the ones that took my eyes off of myself and lifted them to God,” shares Schlueter. “’Word’s We’ll Sing Forever’ is that song. It’s a song for the Church to sing and lift to the Lord. It’s a song for each individual to focus their attention on Christ. And it’s a song for Jesus, to praise and glorify Him.”

And, of course, Seph is up to #4 on this week's Billboard CCM chart with another track from the CD, "Running Back To You."

AMIR TSARFATI & STEVE YOHN

"The Sick Man's Rage"

(Best selling Christian authors,

Amir Tsarfati and Steve Yohn's "The Sick Man's Rage: A Nir Tavor Mossad Thriller, Softcover, #4" entered January's Christian Booksellers' Top 50 list at #14 and the Christian Fiction Top 25 list at #1).

The two had a conversation about the book...

Steve: We started it on October 7th because we really wanted people to, as much as they could, get that feeling, that experience of what it was like to be hunted, to be the prey when the terrorists are chasing. But, it was very difficult because we wanted to make sure that it was respectful. We wanted to make sure that we weren’t glamorizing anything. So, we started at the Nova Festival. But why, for you, as an Israeli, is it so important that people are taken into that day and experienced both what the victims experienced, but also what you as an Israeli from the outside looking in, experienced from your helpless place where you couldn’t do anything for these people?

Amir: I think that people moved on already. Voices of denial that it had ever happened started floating around. Most of the gullible students in the U.S. campuses and other places around the world truly thought that the war started on October 8th. They did not even have a clue that anything happened on October 7th...the deadliest day in the life of the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

So, I will forever do my best to make sure the Holocaust that happened in my lifetime will not be forgotten. People not only did not believe us for what really happened, but took it a step further and did not even think that we have the right to defend ourselves, to protect ourselves, and to pay back. I will tell you the truth. Our entire series of Nir Tavor is about defending the right of Israel to exist and doing whatever it takes to make sure we’re still here. And we’re not done yet.

Gospel Artist

JASON NELSON

Celebrates 5th Billboard

No. 1 Chart Single, "Yahweh"

Bishop Jason Nelson, best-known for his gospel gems “Forever” and “Residue,” has nabbed his fifth No. 1 gospel chart hit with “Yahweh,” which features the rising GRAMMY® Award nominated gospel star, Melvin Crispell III. This week, it's at #2.

The worship ballad has amassed over 5 million U.S. domestic streams and over 25 million airplay impressions. The song was No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart for the week ending January 25th and No. 1 on Mediabase’s Gospel Airplay chart.

"Yahweh" is a song that speaks to how God created humanity and, as a result, breathed life into us," Jason says. It’s God breathing into us so that we can literally give him the glory, give him the honor.”

"It speaks to the core theme of the entire album, which is revival and life with God. Once everyone is able to hear the full project, they'll understand why 'Yahweh' is a great introduction."

“It was incredible and intimidating because Melvin just sings for no reason at all.” He humorously added, “I literally told him that’s recording. I said, dude, do not embarrass me on my own.”

The track anchors Nelson’s seventh album, "You Belong" The album was recorded live at World Overcomers Christian Church in Durham, NC in the summer of 2023.

Aside from Crispell, the set features cameos from vocal giants such as Atlanta's Zacardi Cortez, Madison Ryann Ward and Shawn Bigby. The project was Jason’s first live recording since 2018’s "The Answer" project.

A Baltimore, Maryland native, Nelson has been active on the national stage since 2005. Over the years, he’s enjoyed a string of gospel radio hits such as “Shifting the Atmosphere,” “Nothing Without You,” “I Am” and “Forever” that have earned him over 100 million digital streams.

Surprise Your Kids with

Unforgettable Faith Lessons

By Jim Daly,

President of Focus on the Family

Sometimes it can be quite the challenge to keep your kids engaged during family devotions. And the last thing you want is for your kids to think that God’s Word is boring! Our guest, Tim Shoemaker, is the author of 14 books and speaks to parents around the country about living the Christian life in a way that influences the next generation.

Tim: One of the things that were so powerful about leading family devotions is that God kept changing me. And I think over the course of a year, year and a half, I really believed I was in a different spot than I would’ve been if I hadn’t been doing family devotions. Now, I was trying to benefit the kids, right? Here’s this huge benefit to me, because I didn’t lose my kids’ respect by confessing. By admitting that we do it wrong, we don’t lose their respect. We’re making those adjustments, and I was able to speak into their life all through their teenage years.

Jim: I remember the devotions with the boys, and really, Jean and I, we had a different picture of what it could look like, and she wanted it pretty formal. But, these are two boys who are wiggling all the time, and they’re not gonna sit and listen to music for five minutes, and then a lesson, and then pray together.

Tax Season 2025: What You Need to Know

Well. It’s about that time of the year again—tax season. Groan. From standard deductions and adjusted tax brackets to figuring out which tax credits and deductions you qualify for, it can be a lot to figure out everything you need to know to file your taxes.

Don’t worry, we’re going to dive into all of that, plus a few more changes you need to be aware of. First, let’s kick things off with the main details you need to know for the 2025 tax season:

Tax filing deadline: All tax returns must be filed by April 15, 2025. If you owe any taxes for tax year 2024, those also must be paid by this date.

Extension deadline: If you request a tax filing extension, then your new tax filing deadline is October 15, 2025. However, if you owe taxes for tax year 2024, that payment is still due on April 15 regardless of the extension to file.

Standard deduction increase: For tax year 2024, the standard deduction is $14,600 for single filers and $29,200 for married couples filing jointly.

Tax brackets adjusted for inflation: Income tax brackets went up in 2024 to account for inflation. The tax rates all stay the same, with the lowest rate standing at 10% and the highest rate remaining at 37%. But that’s just scratching the surface! Let’s break down the details so you can file your taxes with confidence this year.

When Can I File My Taxes? - Tax season typically starts at the end of January, which means you should see a W-2 form from your employer in your mailbox by the end of the month
