PHIL WICKHAM'S

“What an Awesome God” Breathes New Life into

Rich Mullins’ Timeless Anthem

(Phil Wickham's "What An Awesome God" from his new album, "Song of the Saints," is #1 on Billboard's CCM charts for the second straight week)

<<Rich Mullins wondered if he had a place in Contemporary Christian music.

<<Despite struggling to feel like he fit in the artist mold and speaking prophetically about flaws in worship and church cultures, Mullins wrote a song that became as beloved as any song of the past fifty years - “Awesome God.”

Nearly forty years ago, “Awesome God” exploded up the charts with a power that lacked polish but oozed with authenticity. In 2004, CCM Magazine named “Awesome God” the #1 greatest song in Christian music history.

<<So, when Phil Wickham had the idea to record “What An Awesome God,” it’s no wonder he felt the weight of the song’s beloved history. In an interview, he shared about striving to present a new version full of reverence for the place “Awesome God” has in the hearts of millions, as well as pointing listeners to One the song is about.

<<“It’s hard to even describe what it means to me to share a small part of the legacy of this song,” Phil said about the song. “What started as a fun idea in the studio grew into an unexpected new take on the ‘Awesome God’ story. It has quickly become one of my favorite songs to sing with the church, proudly declaring each night how awesome our God is!”

<<Wickham’s “What an Awesome God” maintains the chorus of the original song while adding new verses which follow similar themes. The original song echoes the words of 2 Timothy 1:7 (“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline”), as it talks about God’s wisdom, power, and love.

FORREST FRANK Witnesses a ‘Miracle’ as he recovers from broken back days after fracturing spine in skateboarding fall

<<Two weeks ago, Grammy nominated Christian artist Forrest Frank broke his back while skateboarding with his son. In a candid video shared on his social media page, the singer shares how calling on Jesus has eased his pain.

<<The most excruciating part is getting out of bed to use the bathroom, but he and his wife, Grace, have seen God work through the pain.

“Help me, help me, Jesus,” Frank began to pray in a video of him and Grace getting him out of bed. The singer grimaces in pain as he continues to say, “Help me, Jesus. Help me, Jesus.”

<<The video then cuts to Frank lying in his bed with a smile on his face.

<<“We just witnessed a miracle,” Grace, said.

“My back kept getting tighter and tighter and tighter,” Frank explained. “And I needed to lie down. But the transition is just so hard, and every time we’ve like fully focused our mind on ‘Jesus, let me body worship you.’ When we’ve stayed right there, it hasn’t hurt.”

<<“Every time we’ve done it, it’s worked,” Grace echoed.

<<Forrest has found inspiration in the fall making his biggest career chart debut this week with “Lemonade,” currently No. 2 on several Billboard charts for its first charting frame, his second consecutive leading debut on the chart, following last week’s “God’s Got My Back.” Those and “Selah”, each were inspired by the skateboarding injury.

<<Frank has already done his first show at the Iowa State Fair after the injury.

VASHAWN MITCHELL "Make A Way"

(VaShawn Mitchell was #1 last week on Billboard's Gospel Music charts with his single, "Make A Way")

<<VaShawn Mitchell opened up about his latest single, “Make A Way,” sharing the heart and inspiration behind the song. “When I wrote ‘Make A Way,’ I wanted to remind everyone that no matter what you’re facing, God is faithful and He will always provide a way,” VaShawn explained. “I say in the song, ‘He gon’ make a way, make a way, make a, I know He will.’ That’s the foundation of our faith.”

<<Reflecting on his passion for church, VaShawn expressed, “Church is more than just a building; it’s where I’m strengthened. I love the atmosphere of worship, the community, and how it brings people together in faith and hope.” He emphasized how the environment of the church fuels his creativity and spirit, saying, “Being in church reminds me of God’s presence and power. It’s where I feel connected and uplifted.”

<<The Chicago native also talked about the message he hopes listeners will take from “Make A Way.” “I tell people, even when you’re broken, ‘don’t be hopeless.’ The lyrics say, ‘Even when I’m broken, I am never hopeless.’ That’s real life. We face trials, but God brings us through. ‘Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.’ This song is designed to encourage people to keep believing.”

<<The Chicago native shared a personal testimony about perseverance: “I’m a living witness that He’ll make a way. Like the song says, ‘Tried in the fire, came out as pure gold.’ It’s proof that God’s power transforms us through every challenge.” His advice to believers was clear and heartfelt: “Hold on, don’t give up. God’s timing is perfect, and ‘He’s got you.’”

<<Mitchell expressed hopes for the impact of “Make A Way” in churches and communities: “I want choirs and believers to see this song as more than just music. It’s a declaration of victory, an anthem of faith, a reminder that God will ‘work it out just for you.’”

Brandon Lake, CeCe Winans, Forrest Frank lead nominations for GMA Dove Awards

<<Brandon Lake, CeCe Winans, Forrest Frank, Josiah Queen, Lauren Daigle and Phil Wickham are among the artists vying for artist of the year at the 56th annual GMA Dove Awards, the Gospel Music Association announced Tuesday.

<<Lake, who serves as worship pastor at the multi-site megachurch Seacoast Church based in Charleston, South Carolina, leads this year’s nominations with nine, including artist of the year, song of the year and pop/contemporary recorded song of the year.

His collaboration with Jelly Roll, “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” recently spent 17 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, while his recent album "King of Hearts" debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200.

<<At last year’s Dove Awards, where he was nominated for 16 awards, Lake told The Christian Post he tries to stay “in tune with the spirit” when creating music.

<<My greatest thing I can offer is my testimony,” he said. “Sometimes there's a day where I'm feeling certain things and different portions of the Bible, and I'm like, ‘I need to lean into this,’ and write a song about how the grace of God applies to me, and how I've experienced it.

<<"Some days, I like to write songs about the healing that I've seen God do, and not downplay it or water it down, but quite literally, use phrases like, ‘I've seen metal plates dissolve,’ and that's in my testimony. I've seen crazy things happen. Not to under spiritualize it, but I'm just trying to stay in tune with the Spirit, and just ask Him what He wants me to sing. And hopefully, it blesses people. I'm still learning myself.”

CCM Pioneer Chuck Girard Enters Heaven at 81. Amy Grant and More

Share Tributes

<<“In my weakness, You always make me strong. All I wanna do now is praise You all day long.”

<<In these soul-stirring lines, Chuck Girard captured the essence of what would become his life’s work: the raw honesty of weakness transformed by strength, and a heart entirely devoted to praise. On August 11, 2025, Girard entered his eternal home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy that helped shape the very foundation of Contemporary Christian Music.

<<It would not be an overstatement to say that CCM Magazine, and the entire genre it represents, might not have existed without Chuck Girard and Love Song. As a Founding Father of the Jesus Movement in the early 1970s, Girard blazed a bold trail of faith-formed artistry, creating a path that would grow into the vast terrain of Christian music we know today.

The 12 Lies That Keep

People in Debt

<<Debt—it’s become as normal as waking up in the morning and brushing your teeth. But just because debt is “normal” doesn’t mean it’s good for you. The truth is, we hate debt around here because of all the problems it causes.

<<Debt robs your present and steals from your future. Debt keeps you stuck in a cycle that makes it impossible to build wealth. And debt can weigh you down so much you can’t see a way out.

<<But even though debt comes with all that baggage, people still make all sorts of excuses for staying in debt instead of taking steps to become debt-free. And spoiler alert, all of them are bogus. Don’t fall for any of these 12 lies that keep people in debt:

1. Lie: Debt is normal (or even helpful)

<<Like we said, it’s totally normal to have debt hanging around your neck. Don’t believe us? A shocking 77% of Americans have some type of debt—that’s nearly 8 out of every 10 people!1 And how many times have you heard one of these money myths:

<<Avoid the traps and manage your money the right way with Financial Peace University.

<<You need to have a good credit score! (No, you don’t.)

<<There are good debts—and tax benefits! (No, there really aren’t.)

<<It’s okay to have a car payment and student loans! (No, it’s not.)

<<Those are straight-up lies about money that the toxic culture is shoving down our throats. What’s so great about owing money to somebody? Nothing!

<<And if you think it’s easy to stay on top of your debt, our research shows that 1 in 5 Americans have fallen deeper into debt since June of 2022. That’s not staying on top. That’s being buried alive.

<<Living in debt kills the American Dream. Don’t you want to start living your dreams sooner?

<<Hey—here’s some honest-to-goodness good news: You can! Seriously. Just be ready to be different. If being in debt is normal, choose to be weird.
