God Has a Plan for You That Exceeds Anything You Could Ever Imagine’—COLTON DIXON

Discusses His Single ‘UP + UP’

“American Idol” alum and Dove Award-winning artist Colton Dixon has the #2 song for the second consecutive week on Billboard's Contemporary Christian charts with "Up + Up."

Colton spoke with ChurchLeaders regarding the song, which was inspired by Jeremiah 29:11.

He said the single came together more quickly than is normal for him and was “such a God thing.” The song centers on a Bible verse that Dixon has “always loved,” and which says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”

“Trying to figure out what God’s plan is for our life, I feel like, has been a source of contention amongst a lot of people,” said Dixon. That’s why he believes the Holy Spirit led him to open up his Bible to Jeremiah.

Colton shared that, although he was raised in the church, he wasn’t really taught that God’s plans are meant to “prosper us.” Instead, he was taught that “in order to be a Christian, you’ve got to be poor. It’s like a poverty mindset versus a prosperity mindset.”

Author & Pastor

MAX LUCADO

"What Happens Next"

Bestselling Christian author

Max Lucado is now in his 40th year of books making the best seller's list.

He has two more on this month's chart, “Experiencing the Heart of Jesus, Expanded Edition - A One-Year Bible Study to Help You Draw Closer to the Savior" up to #8 from #29.

“What Happens Next - A Traveler’s Guide Through the End of This Age" sits at #12 up from #19.

The pastor from San Antonio, Texas, talked about "What Happens Next" and the motivation behind writing the book and its main themes.

Lucado explains that he wrote "What Happens Next" to provide hope for believers today, stating:

"There's a heaviness in society today... There's a lack of hope, especially among teenagers, where the suicide rate is continuing to increase. Overall, the suicide rate is the highest it's been since World War II. We feel like we're trapped. We don't have a clear understanding. And my experience has been that clarity about the future grants courage for today."7

He emphasizes that the book's purpose is to encourage readers to focus on the future promised by God:

"According to the Bible, what happens next should be a source of great encouragement and hope. Jesus told His followers, and He tells us, 'Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God. Trust also in me. In my father's house are many mansions. And if it were not so, I would not have told you. I'm going there to prepare a place for you.'"

Max also discusses how the book addresses the concept of the end times:

"All my life, I've been fascinated with what the Bible has to say about the end times. Only in recent years have I become obsessed with understanding what is about to happen."

He emphasizes that the study of end times should not be frightening but rather a source of hope and encouragement for believers

NIA ALLEN’S

'Sunshine' Is The Feel-Good Anthem You Need

Nia Allen, known for her heartfelt gospel music, is bringing us a breath of fresh air with her single, “Sunshine,” featuring the talented Jor'Dan Armstrong. It's #1 on Billoard's Gospel Music charts for the second straight week.

You mentioned that the song was created to put a smile on people’s faces. When life feels overwhelming, what’s your personal go-to for staying uplifted and positive?

Yes, the song was certainly created to uplift the spirits of all who hear it and bring joy and a smile to people’s faces. To be honest, it is my faith and relationship with God that keeps me uplifted and positive. There’s a joy and a peace I’ve found in my own spiritual walk and journey, and I desire to spread that with others.

How did the collaboration with Jor'Dan Armstrong come about, and what was it like working with him on this project?

Working with Jor’Dan was amazing!! He’s an amazing artist, songwriter, and producer. We actually have the same management, and that’s how the collaboration came about. Jor’Dan had a wonderful song idea and track. They let me hear it, and I co-wrote the verses. We got into the studio, and that’s where the magic happened, and it all came together!

You've had the opportunity to lead worship in many powerful spaces. How does your worship leader's role influence how you approach writing and performing music?

No matter what space I’m in. My heart, purpose, and main goal are encouraging and inspiring others. Whether I’m leading worship, writing a song, or singing my inspirational song “Sunshine.” My heart and goal is to encourage others, from the lyrics that I write to the songs that I sing.

It’s my desire that someone would be inspired after hearing it. It really is about connecting with and serving the people. It’s about encouraging them right where they are. So, I take that heart and mentality everywhere I go and every time I sing.

Tax Season 2025: What You Need to Know

Well. It’s about that time of the year again—tax season. Groan. From standard deductions and adjusted tax brackets to figuring out which tax credits and deductions you qualify for, it can be a lot to figure out everything you need to know to file your taxes.

Don’t worry, we’re going to dive into all of that, plus a few more changes you need to be aware of. First, let’s kick things off with the main details you need to know for the 2025 tax season:

Tax filing deadline: All tax returns must be filed by April 15, 2025. If you owe any taxes for tax year 2024, those also must be paid by this date.

Extension deadline: If you request a tax filing extension, then your new tax filing deadline is October 15, 2025. However, if you owe taxes for tax year 2024, that payment is still due on April 15 regardless of the extension to file.

Standard deduction increase: For tax year 2024, the standard deduction is $14,600 for single filers and $29,200 for married couples filing jointly.

How to Build Moral Courage in Your Kids

By Jim Daly,

President of Focus on the Family

Respect, humility and courage – foundational to a happy, healthy society – have been diminished in our culture.

My wife and I aimed to instill those values in our boys, Trent and Troy, by enrolling them in Cotillion, an etiquette class that prepares children to interact with each other with manners as mature young men and women.

The boys were apprehensive, but I assured them, “Don’t worry, guys. They’ll mostly teach you table manners.” Boy, was I wrong. A good portion of the experience was about ballroom-style dancing. They were mortified. I still remember my oldest, Trent, glaring at me from across the room, his eyes saying, “Wait until I get a hold of you.”

Fortunately, it all turned out for the best. Those unexpected moments contributed to their growth as much as the planned lessons. Later, Trent told me, “That’s where I learned how to shake someone’s hand properly and look an adult in the eye.”

If you’re wondering how to raise children who are morally courageous, grounded in truth, and able to stand strong against the temptations of today’s culture, tune in to Focus on the Family with Jim Daly. My guest is author Jill Garner.

She helps parents raise children who are “morally courageous, grounded in truth, and fortified with self-respect.” She says children need GRIT, which she defines as “stubbornness with a purpose”:
