Wishing You a
Joyous Holiday Season

December brings with it a welling up of anticipation for winter weather, festive holiday celebrations and activities, and cherished visits with friends and loved ones.

As we reflect on 2018, our focus settles on a feeling of gratitude for our customers.  The many conversations about our mutual passion of plants and gardening has certainly expanded our base and has led us to be better caretakers of this living and breathing botanical material.

On behalf of us all at Christianson's Nursery, we thank you for your patronage and curiosity in gardening and we look forward to a new year of sharing interesting plants and gardening ideas.
Here's to wishing you a most joyous and safe holiday season!

"It is the sweet simple things in life which are the real ones after all."

~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
Oh joy of joys ~ the holiday season has arrived! No more stifling our impulses to whistle holiday songs or wear our bejeweled brooches from our grandmothers. As you might have guessed, this is our favorite time of year here in Primrose. As always, the shop is merry and bright, and filled with an especially wonderful selection of specialty gifts and holiday treasures.  But there's something more...there's some intangible, indescribable feeling in the air this year.

Maybe it's the smell of fir and pine, triggering our childhood memories of fresh-cut Christmas tree s? Maybe it's the flocking on all the evergreen garlands and many of the displays, reminding us of how magical a light dusting of snow can be? Or perhaps it's the antique and vintage treasures that spark a memory and transport us back to a simpler time? Maybe it's all of that, combined with the coziness of the shop as you come in from the blustery weather?

Whatever it is, from the moment you step into Primrose it feels like you've just entered  a little magical oasis in the swirl of this busy season. We love seeing our guests walk through the doors, take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy strolling the shop.

We recently received a lovely comment from a new visitor to the shop.  As she was leaving, she stopped, turned around, smiled and said, "everything was absolutely perfect without being perfect." Music to our ears!

Thank you for your many visits and kind words. We are are always delighted when we can help you find the perfect gift but, almost more than that, we love providing you with a place where you can slow down and enjoy a sweet, simple holiday experience.

Best wishes for a joyous holiday season from all us in Primrose!

"Ask John!"
John loves hearing from his customers and do they love to ask him questions! Each conversation features a question submitted by someone like you.

Q:  Hi John,
I was gifted a 'Julia Child' rose this spring and love it!  It bloomed all summer long.  I have kept it in a large, Terra Cotta pot and am concerned about over-wintering it.  What do you advise to protect the roots from freezing?
-Linda, Fife, WA
A:   Hello Linda,
The roots are hardy in the ground but are not in containers. If temperatures don't get terribly cold, you won't have to do much with it.
However, if the weather drops to 25 degrees (Fahrenheit) or lower, there are some things to do to protect the plant:
1.) Wrap the container with blankets or burlap.
2.) You may also move it into a garage temporarily.
Remember to water if it gets extremely cold as water is an excellent insulator, too.
'Julia Child' is a rose that we classify as one of the top 15 Easy to Grow Roses and Most Fragrant on our Rose List.  It's full yellow blooms get a high rating (8.3) by the 2019 American Rose Society, making it one of our best-selling roses at the Nursery.
Glad to hear it brings you joy.
