Approaching the World in Our Times in
"Mary’s Way"
By

Responsible for Seoul, Korea

Faith should not be passive but call for our active participation.

Father Chaminade had always been active and positive in
coping with the circumstances of the times and felt the
presence of God in doing so. Likewise, Mary always coped
with the circumstances around her in active and positive ways.

T he Marianist ideal and vision are to fulfill God’s will in this world.
We need to be inside the world with new ideas and a
consciousness of the mission in order to realize God’s will in
it.

Mary’s special way of communicating with the world, i.e.
listening, educating, reconciliation (forgiveness), solidarity,
deliberation, and so on, is the way of living the Marianist
spirituality as very active and positive missionaries.

Father Chaminade speaks even at this very moment:

"Go into the world in 'Mary’s Way' with new mission for the
ne w age to carry out God’s will."

Community -
Seoul MLC’s goal for 2019 is “Marianist, Together – Building Open Community, Charming Community.”

The 12 communities of Seoul MLC established their action plans around the challenges raised at the international meeting within this goal. So far, their activities include prayer (dedication by Marianists every day), monthly mass on the first Sunday and exchange between communities, participation in Marianist family events, retreats, etc., and spiritual sharing between communities for spiritual growth. This latter idea was especially encouraged by Fr. Andre Fetis, General Superior of the SM. when he said at the recent International Lay Assembly, “De Jérusalem à Seoul, un seul cœur et une seule âme, la communauté marianiste” (Marianist Community with One Heart and One Soul from Jerusalem to Seoul.)

This year, particularly, we put more emphasis on the development of lay apostolates in each community and have developed and carried out apostolate activities such as giving donations to and visiting children in orphanages, donations to Africa, music band activities, and preparation of snacks for soldiers.

Formation
For “Marianist Formation”, which was one of the challenges discussed during the 7th international meeting, we developed a program with ten themes covering Marianist charism and leadership.  Four lay animators have been providing the training for the formation.

Seventeen people joined the training in 2018 and dedicated themselves to the Marianist charism in March 2019. Currently 9 new postulants are receiving the training.

Challenge and Task

However, the Marianist activities to approach and attract young people still remains as the challenge and task to fulfill.
