Inste Graduation in Ukraine November 2023
|
The ongoing war in Ukraine has (understandably) put a damper on many celebrations, but recently we took time to award three Inste students their hard-earned diplomas and rejoice in their accomplishment.
These students overcame many barriers to finish their studies: first, there were the Covid-19 restrictions, then the full-scale invasion. They persevered despite air raid alarms, lack of heating and electricity, often studying by candlelight. Some were evacuated during the first days of war. All felt the stress of war.
They faithfully served in leadership in their church, putting into practice the things they were learning. Something I love about Inste is that through their studies and personalized mentoring, we help leaders do better what they’re gifted in and called to do. Only God “makes” leaders, but Inste helps them to do and be better! …and I see the fruit in these students’ lives!

I briefly spoke to them from John 16:33, where Jesus told his disciples, “In this world you will have troubles.” (Not a stirring speech for graduates, I know.) But it reminds us that life is not without problems – even with a diploma! But we’re encouraged by Jesus’ next words, “But take heart! I have overcome the world!” As we abide in Him we can have a victorious life. What comforting words!
I’m grateful for Inste students around Ukraine who continue to study despite the stress of war. And we celebrate these three students who received their diplomas! Well done!

¡He vencido al mundo!"
¡Bien hecho!

As we focus on Christmas, we celebrate the birth of our Savior and the amazing love God has for all of humankind. I am reminded of the star of Bethlehem that shone over the place where Christ was born and how the Magi (wise men) traveled from so far away to come and worship the Christ child. The star represents the light of God that dispels all darkness and when God’s light shines it reveals the sin, injustice, and failings of us all.
God’s light brings hope and salvation to this world.
Once we have received Christ as our Savior, it is God’s intention that we allow His light to shine thorough us. Like the Magi in Matthew 2 who saw the light and went to Bethlehem, we want other people to see God’s righteousness and light in us so that they will be attracted to it.
| |
|

In the midst of the darkest days of God’s people He shone His light.
Luke 2:8-14, the shepherds in the field saw the great light when the angel of the Lord appeared to bring the good news of great joy that the Savior of the world was born in a manger in Bethlehem.
Jesus told us he is the light of the world- John 8:12, Again Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world, Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
| |
|
| |
|
Jesus is the only light of the world. There is no other path to establish a relationship with God. Christ invites us to bring our brokenness into his light where he can heal us and restore us.
How many people are still walking in darkness because Satan has blinded them and deceived them?
2 Corinthians 4:4, In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Satan seeks to blind people, so they don’t see who Christ really is.
| |
|

People are drawn to the authentic light of God in believers. We who carry the light of Christ should let that light shine so that people are drawn to it. People can see the hope, peace and joy in us and are compelled to seek the source.
Every time you do good, when you show love undeserved, offer forgiveness, give generously, show kindness and mercy you are allowing Christ’s light to shine through you.
The Bible says in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Let’s allow our light to shine so that others may know Him as Savior and Lord, which would be the greatest Christmas gift of all.
Let us all “let our shine before others” this Christmas as we point people to Jesus who is source of our light, hope, peace, and joy.
The Board of IGBC and your entire IGBC staff wishes you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with God’s anointing and blessing! We love and appreciate you all.
