MUSIC: "A Few Notes"

- from RenĂ©e Russell -

As the year winds down, I am so deeply grateful for everyone who has encouraged and enjoyed our journey into virtual music making. It has been quite the adventure - with plenty of bumps along the way - but it has shown me such beauty in the way we can all persevere and still find connection through music in a time when connection is sorely needed. My gift of "merry" to you this week are a few of my favorite links to humorous music and a fun, interactive game. Please enjoy and please join us for plenty of beautiful music created by our UU musicians in our Christmas Eve service.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

- from Claire Crandell -

Our theme this Sunday was "Watching for the Light". Winter is a time for many celebrations of the Light throughout the world. We began with our happy sharing of the past week and a brief standing breathing meditation. We quickly recapped our wonderful topics of this month of ways to heal ourselves, others and the planet, how to listen, how lovely is the stillness and to pay attention to our own inner voice. Then Arial read a beautiful story she had written about the healing magic of Christmas tree lights. This was perfect for our topic of rekindling hope by watching for the light. We also agreed that we would all do a little drawing to give to Arial as an "illustration" for her story.

We discussed that Christ said, "If thine eye be single thy whole body will be full of Light." Many world religions refer to the Light within and we talked about what a symbol is and the examples of stained glass windows and candles. We made a pledge to be as helpful as we could to our family and friends. As a craft we cut out a paper snowflake and then shouted gleefully to one another "Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!"and "SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!". We all look forward to sharing our Christmas next Sunday.

Here is a link for directions on how to make the snowflake chalice
from our UU SoulMatters resource book!

MINISTERIAL SEARCH TEAM REPORT

It's not the Christmas we wanted, but it's the Christmas we got.  Make it merry and stay healthy for a better one next year!

Your MST spent some of our Christmas week meeting time filling our end-of- 2020 and fresh, new 2021 calendars with important work sessions in preparation for the exciting and challenging business before us.  Discussing the details, the how's and when's of the tasks that are coming at us at warp speed, makes us mindful of how grateful we are to have teammates all pulling together, sharing thoughts openly, and generously sharing the considerable load.

Thank you all for your support.  Happy Holidays!
Mary, Geoff, Charles, Dusty, Jim, Chris, Jan

End Note:

...And in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth I said

For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men

Then rang the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor does he sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men

Then ringing singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day
   A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men....

                                              "Christmas Bells" by
                                                Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
