Our Mission: To promote, support and connect commerce and community.
The origination of the saying "Christmas in July" is somewhat unclear. According to Southern Living magazine, the cheery phrase was created at a summer camp for girls, Keystone Camp, in North Carolina in 1933. Others believe that it started in Europe as a way to celebrate the cool holiday in the hot summer weather, or that it began in countries in the southern hemisphere since seasons there are opposite of ours here in the Northern half. At any rate, it's a catchy phrase used frequently. A friend of mine shared photos of her family's time at last weekend's Yarmouth Clam Festival on social media with the statement, you guessed it, "Christmas in July!" Ha! I have to agree.
Chamber members are celebrating their own Christmas in July. The Arthritis Foundation has opened up registration for their annual Jingle Bell Run Freeport in December. July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month , promoting awareness that kids get arthritis, too! So you can "jingle all the way" to a cure by participating. It's a family event.

Who couldn't use $2,500 to buy some nice holiday gifts?! Our Great Freeport Golf Ball Drop chance tickets are now on sale! You can get your chances here for yourself, for gifts or for your employees. It's another Friendly-Freeport event - and supports our Budding Entrepreneur Scholarship - so bring your crew to Gritty's on Friday, September 13 and watch the golf balls drop from a hot air balloon. Get the picture by viewing last year's slideshow using this link .

Happy Holidays?
