The origination of the saying "Christmas in July" is somewhat unclear.
According to Southern Living magazine, the cheery phrase was created at a summer camp for girls, Keystone Camp, in North Carolina in 1933. Others believe that it started in Europe as a way to celebrate the cool holiday in the hot summer weather, or that it began in countries in the southern hemisphere since seasons there are opposite of ours here in the Northern half. At any rate, it's a catchy phrase used frequently. A friend of mine shared photos of her family's time at last weekend's
Yarmouth Clam Festival on social media with the statement, you guessed it, "Christmas in July!" Ha! I have to agree.
