Traffic Circles being repaired...

Thanks to dues, donations, plant sales, pot painters, gourd painters, etc, etc, the damaged traffic circles are being repaired. The neighborhood association must pay to create or repair traffic circles. More info on projects coming in 2026. Meanwhile, thank you JP residents.

Message from our Clean Committee and a thank you to TPD

Note from Clean Committee which meets every 3rd Saturday at the northeast parklet (Campbell/Edison): "This morning (Dec 20) there was one overnight camper in the park, but not too much trash. The parklet is now quite clean for neighbors to enjoy. In addition, we were able to clean the entire frontage road parallel to Campbell.

We appreciate the Tucson Police Department, which has been sending a crew every morning to check on the linear park along Grant Road. They have addressed a series of homeless encampments in the west end of the basin and are removing people and trash daily as needed."

...and we appreciate those JP volunteers!

Officer Franco says:

"I will be having several officers in my squad patrol the park area. Please advise me of any specific concerns you have. My squad works early mornings - 05:30 am to 3:30pm, Friday to Monday. We can monitor any issues during the day time. Feel free to reach out to me anytime." Nicholas.Franco@tucsonaz.gov

PLEASE report any folks camping or garbage from an encampment. Report twice, once to 311 and once to

Nicholas.Franco@tucsonaz.gov

Building and Demolition in Jefferson Park

Jefferson Park is a Historic Distric and also has an additional overlay, an NPZ (Neighborhood Preservation Zone). As such, the neighborhood has a few extra protections against non-compatible construction. We also have a Land Use Committee that reviews plans.

1177 E Lester, one of the large houses built in 1918 by homesteader, Annie Stattelman Lester, has been allowed to fall into a sad state of disrepair. This once lovely piece of history is due to be demolished in the very near future.

1720 E Edison currently has a request in for two ADU's behind it - at least one of them is a two story.

JPNA Land Use Committee has requested a review of the permit.

If you observe any construction in JPNA that seems questionable, or you have questions, please reach out to: jpnalanduse@gmail.com

If you are considering remodeling or building in the neighborhood, please see the Jefferson Park website: http://www.jeffersonpark.info/buildinghistoric-status.html

Help Paint a Mural

Banner Pediatric Emergency

Feeling artistic? Banner is currently in the midst of a project at the hospital, the Children’s Emergency Department Expansion. As part of this project, they will hold a community event on Saturday, January 10, from 10AM to 4PM; that is, to help paint a mural alongside the muralist heading the project. It is in front of the Emergency Department (See the area in the red box above). They are signing up 20 to 25 people each hour. If you would like to participate in this terrific event, please contact Tiffany De Alva, Senior Project Manager, to RSVP and to ask any questions you may have.

Email: tiffany.dealva@bannerhealth.com

Mobile: 520-400-9570.

Banner Parking Garage

Banner Proposed Parking Garage: More info to come. Will start sometime in the second quarter of 2026. Banner will publish contact numbers and will periodically attend JPNA meetings to keep neighbors informed. Projected update about the project: February 25, 2026 JPNA meeting.

HELICOPTERS OVERHEAD???

If you live in Jefferson Park, there should be no helicopters bound for Banner Hospital over your house. Jefferson Park has an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) that all helicopters must enter and leave south of the hospital.

Jefferson Park meets regularly with Banner to talk about their progress in keeping that agreement. One of the things evident in the latest data is that neighbors do not often notify Banner when a helicopter has violated the agreement.

Place this number in your phone and just call that number-it is quick and easy and helps inform Banner.

Call BUMC Security: 520-694-6533, just give location of helicopter-no need to give your name

Saturday Clean Ups - THANKS AGAIN!

Third Saturday of the month. Thank you all who have helped with the clean-ups. Please continue to report any homeless encampments to:

https://reportencampments.tucsonaz.gov/

All garbage bags and tools are supplied and the company is great! We report the hours to Tucson Clean & Beautiful Adopt-A-Park Program. See more information at http://www.jeffersonpark.info/clean-committee.html

TEP- Midtown Project

Update—In a recent development, TEP stated that they were going to move forward with the project but would not pursue the permit for the upgrade and enlargement of the Vine substation.

TEP is most likely trying this approach so as to avoid the required special exception permit and the Zoning Examiner's decision that would have most likely ruled that they were underground. TEP intends to continue erecting massive 100' poles and overhead wires throughout the heart of the city, including a direct route down Park from Adams to Grant. However, Dan Dempsey, on behalf of Underground Arizona, has filed a complaint with the Corporation Commission that the project as approved is no longer valid since TEP is attempting to change part of it.

However, TEP has applied for the Special Exception Land Use Permit. If you pass by the proposed site for the substation on Vine, there are signs that have been erected about the substation. There is also information posted about an upcoming public hearing to take place in late January. Just after the holidays, we'll get more info out to you about how you can be involved.

Donations Needed: STAR Village Safe Sleeping Site

The City of Tucson, in partnership with local nonprofits, launched the STAR Village pilot program; a safe outdoor sleeping space designed to support individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness. This community driven initiative, Serving Together and Rebuilding (STAR), will provide space for up to 25 participants at a time. The site will be continuously staffed to ensure safety and will also include access to on-site social services and medical assistance, helping participants move toward more stable housing. The site is located at 244 E. Grant Road in Ward 3. City staff are working with nearby residents and businesses to ensure a smooth launch. In addition, the program will incorporate the City’s Homeless Work Program and voluntary efforts from participants to help keep the site and surrounding area clean. Funding for STAR Village will come from a mix of Mayor and Council office budgets, local nonprofits, and private fundraising but community support is vital. Help support STAR Village at Primavera.org
