Did you know that goats love to eat Christmas trees?
If you're still hanging onto that Christmas tree and wondering what to do with it now that the holidays are over, calling your local goat farmer is just one of your potential disposal options.
Christmas trees are what is known as "clean wood," or wood that has never been painted, stained, or treated, which is banned from the landfill in Vermont. Some towns offer disposal assistance, including drop-off and curbside pickup - make sure to contact your local town office to find out if they're offering these services.
Some transfer stations also take Christmas trees and other clean wood - just call ahead to make sure your local station will take it! For a list of transfer stations in the District, visit the Transfer Stations page on our website.
Always remember to remove all tinsel, lights, ornaments, or any other foreign material before recycling your tree. For more information, please visit our Christmas tree recycling page on our website.
If you have an artificial tree to get rid of, you can recycle it at our Additional Recyclables Collection Center (ARCC)! To see other accepted items and pricing, visit the ARCC page on our website.
