On a plot of bare, charred earth, surrounded by the skeletons of burned trees, a Christmas tree glimmers in the darkness. It rises up, a symbol of hope and resilience, where Tricia Woods's home in the Coffey Park section of Santa Rosa, California stood before the neighborhood was engulfed by wildfire last September.

Woods and her family also helped their neighbors, May Salido and her three children, decorate a tree in the place that used to be their home. "It feels more like home now," said May Salido.
After the tree was in place, 12-year-old Maelani Salido, did a dance around it.
