WORSHIP UPDATES – WEEKEND WEATHER
While we cannot fully know what this weekend will bring, it seems clear that a significant winter storm is on the way. At the Cathedral, we’ve worked through several possible scenarios for worship services the past couple of days, moved ice melt and shovels into place, and we’re keeping watch for our neighbors in need. As much as we all love the traditions of Christmas and want to be together, safety is paramount.
Given the blizzard anticipated through Saturday and the state of emergency that has been issued, there will be no worship services at the Cathedral on Christmas Eve – this includes both the 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. worship services that were planned. If you are on Facebook, watch for brief posts from the Cathedral on Christmas Eve. For those who are looking for live-stream worship services on Christmas Eve, take a look at the offerings from the National Cathedral (where no snow is in the forecast).
Please keep in your prayers those who are especially vulnerable at this time, including travelers, those separated from loved ones, and our neighbors without adequate protection from the storm and extremely cold temperatures predicted. Local emergency shelters are full. We are in contact with the downtown police precinct and can be a resource for our community if temporary arrangements are needed; we’ve identified supplies at church to help us be ready. Let us pray for emergency and essential workers and all who care for us in times of need.
Christmas Day: If the storm progresses as expected, it is possible that we will be digging out of the snow on Sunday morning. Worship plans will need to be determined as the time approaches, but if the way seems clear, we will hold two worship services on Christmas Day, at Noon and 2 p.m., and anticipate that one of these can be live-streamed. Again, these services are tentative, depending on the weather and roads, and we know conditions will vary across the metro. We’ll send out another post once we know if these can take place, along with updates on livestream options for Sunday.
Sunday, January 1 – Holy Eucharist at 8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. The forecast looks clear, it’s still the season of Christmas, and we’ll have lots of hymn-singing at the later service!
