CHRISTMAS in WARTIME
Second Saturday, December 10:

Waiting in line to call home at Christmas time.

This Second Saturday WAAAM will be focusing on Christmas in Wartime. Many of us are fortunate that we can be close to family during the holidays but for others distance can span miles.
See how people have deal with being apart across the decades from the Civil War to today through letters and messages displayed around the museum.
Letter writing material will also be available for those that still need to send their thoughts of love out to friends and family.

We'll also have our cars out and about giving rides to visitors between 10 and 2 too.
Another not-to-miss is the restoration shop tour at 11 and 1 where visitors can see several newly donated projects being worked on by the WAAAM Crew.

Saturday's Schedule:
Hours - Activities

9 - Museum Opens
10-2 Action! Flying & Driving
11 - Restoration Shop Tour:

11-12 Caboose Tour
11-1 Lunch! Yummmmmy
1 - Restoration Shop Tour

See you there!  Keep on learning... every day!

M4 is OPEN!

Lots of rearranging has been going on!

November was great because we started shuffling
the collection around again! The new space is open
and we  are loving it. Our new lounge looks out
at the airport and  the collection has a bit of room
to breath again. We still  aren't done moving so
expect more changes to come. Our work-in-progress
i s extra neat because it highlights what  it means to
be a living museum.

November turned out to be a banner month          for the final car rides for the Columbia River    " boat people".
On the last two dates, 165 and then 135 boat people enjoyed car rides, Jay's restoration shop tour and lunch prepared by Jane Sheppard, who did  a stellar job satisfying the hunger pangs of all the visitors.
I want to thank our drivers and helpers, Steve Roberts, Steve Tolson, Andy Anderson, Robert Smithwick, Cal Cargill, Robb Harding, Dave Schneeberg, Jack Sheppard, Dale Nicol and Gary McFarland. These volunteers made the final events go smoothly and memorable for the visitors.
A big shout-out goes to Don Durr and Andy Anderson. These guys installed "the very itchy and nasty," fiberglass insulation in our new garage. Thanks Don and Andy for undertaking the task to insulate the interior.
Another major undertaking last month, was moving and rearranging cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles in M1-north, M1-south , M2 and M3. Thanks to everyone who helped.
Robert Smithwick made the first test drive of our 1916 Willys Runabout. The car ran well and only turned up three items to address, to be completed in December.
Since Steve Bausch is a "snow bird" this winter, Cal Cargill has stepped in to continue the window restoration work on WAAAM's 1914 Detroit Electric vehicle. If you get a chance, stop by and see how challenging this restoration really is.
On the MLR (Mainenance & Light Repair) Program front, thanks again to Robert Smithwick, Andy Anderson, Robb Harding, Cal Cargill, Don Durr, Gene Wright, Paige Myers, David Castillo, Dale Nicol and Steve Roberts for their help this past month.  Dale and Judy Nicol also dusted all the cars in the museum (in their spare time)!
A special thanks to Dale Nicol for coordinating communication all year!   What a difference he  has made!
Stephanie has published the 2017 schedule for "Learning How to Drive a Model-T".
The first class is April 22. We have scheduled 6 classes in 2017 and are limited to 10 students per class, so don't delay if you want to have fun learning all about Fords history of Model-T and how to drive it. Sign up early to assure you have a spot in the class.

The Car Guys are actively seeking additional volunteers to join our team. We have the need for volunteers who can do basic auto maintenance, upholstery, wood body or metal body repair, fabrication, electrical, mechanical and grant writing. Additionally, we need car ride drivers for all Second Saturday events, parades, cruise boat guests and special events. Finally, WAAAM car ride hosts to load/unload people.

ISSUE 12, 2016
christmas_moustache.jpg
It is hard to believe that 2016
is almost finished and we will
start  a new year of 2017.
This year  will finish with about  20,000 volunteer hours.
In  one year!  That is amazing.
Our most prized assets are the volunteers who help keep this
world class museum running.
Our visitors continually
comment on how knowledge-
able and friendly our volunteer
and staff interact with them.
We finished the new building,
so now we have 3.5 acres
under cover.  We have added
more airplanes and cars; and
at this time I do not see an end
in sight.
Our Donors keep giving and
the donations go on and on.
We thank everyone who
contributed to the new building
and the construction of it by
Centrex Corporation.  It is beautiful.  We will have final numbers of visitors, hours,
airplanes and vehicles in the
next newsletter, when we
finish up the year end figures.  Thank you everyone......
........you are amazing.

Check the newspaper for
WAAAM's deals and giveaways going on.

We don't want anyone to miss out on the action or any
of the new items in our gift shop.

There are gifts that are perfect for kids of all ages, pilots of any era, and a heaping helping of fun goodies to jam into a stocking too.

Our Photo "Car" of the Month

Actually, we should mention that
it isn't a car at all, but a sleigh with beautiful red upholstery and
pulled by a flying horse!
Considering the recently
new-fallen snow, perhaps it wasn't
a bad choice for this time of year.
Ask a docent to drop the chains
and let you climb up into this beautiful antique sleigh for
some pictures.
Perfect for your Christmas cards!

Merry Christmas

A reminder for parents and grandparents of little kids:

Our Interactive Learning Zone will be closed for some TLC January 2-13, 2017.

We'd hate for you to arrive expecting to get into the submarine, helicopter, or airplane and not be able to because of the work going
on in that area

Sorry, but it will be only about a week and a half and all will be good.

Hi everyone
I hope you are having a  lovely holiday season.
Over the past month we have been making great progress on restoring
a Piper PA 18 to Military L21 configuration.
This aircraft will be the  museum's designated glider  tow plane, when
i t is finished early spring 2017.
We are currently covering the
wings  and control surfaces.
Come to one of our shop tours this
second Saturday and take a  look
at everything that has been done
in the past month.
