Dear CMDA Members, sponsors and friends,

What a great Summer Business Meeting in Southern California!  For all members, sponsors and educational experts who were able to attend the meeting at the St. Regis Hotel in Dana Point, thanks for coming and all of the positive feedback. Please enjoy the meeting, dinner banquet and golf photos, educational summaries, and meeting highlights at the bottom of the newsletter.

We had a successful member dealer roundtable discussion during the meeting. I will follow up with Chrysler on the issues we discussed, including obtaining a copy of the letter that Chrysler sent to customers regarding after market service contracts and questions regarding delivery allowance elimination, millennium branding, advertising co-op funds and inventory supply.

The Chrysler dealer network is experiencing high sales volumes this summer and the minority dealers as a group are ahead of the curve. Have a successful close of the month.   As a reminder, please register early for our 2014 Annual Meeting/NADA in New Orleans through the link below. Please also contact me or CMDA Executive Director Lisa Hogan (305) 913 -1328 if we can ever be of assistance.

Sincerely,

CMDA Fights Child Hunger
2013 - 2014 National Project

During our Summer Meeting, CMDA members decided to sponsor a national philanthropy project to address Child Hunger in America.

                 CMDA logo  feeding america

The Problem: Child Hunger is hiding in plain sight in America's schools.  20% or more of the child population is unable to

consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life and unfortunately they come to school hungry. That statistic is even higher in certain states. When kids don't have regular, nutritious meals, they learn more slowly and have more behavioral problems. Access to food becomes even worse during the summer when school is out.

The Solution: Raise awareness, collect food, and make a donation.

CMDA members are asked to participate in at least one of the following project components:

1) September 2013 -  Raise the awareness of child hunger in your community at the beginning of the school year by displaying a child hunger informational poster in your showroom and hand out online donation post cards to customers who visit your dealership's sales & service departments in the month of September. September is National Hunger month.CMDA will provide and send the awareness materials to to all member dealerships at no cost.

2) Paste the following donation link:
http://help.feedingamerica.org/goto/cmda
on your dealership's website or Facebook page now through January 2014 for your customers and employees who wish to contribute funds  to Feeding America, the nation's leading hunger relief charity.

3) Donate $100 to your local food bank for each "CMDA Fights Child Hunger coupon" redeemed by consumers who purchase a vehicle or service from your dealership from September to December 2013. In select markets, CMDA will provide local advertising that includes the coupon in your community newspaper to promote this project.

4) January 2014 - Hold a food drive at your dealership for your local food bank in January 2014 to coincide with the month that kids return to school from the winter/ holiday break.

5) Make a direct financial donation through CMDA's Feeding America website link.click here

In December 2013, CMDA's national office will make a significant financial donation to Feeding America, Inc., the nation's leading hunger-relief charity.   We invite our sponsors and approved vendors to join us in this donation.

To participate and request in-store awareness materials, local advertising or food drive assistance,
CLICK HERE and print the Dealer Participation Form
and return it to CMDA Headquarters
no later than August 17, 2013.

NDC Quarterly Meeting

CMDA Members may review the summary of the Second  Quarter 2013 National Dealer Council Meeting held June 10 - 12, 2013 on DealerConnect.

CMDA 20 Group Survey

During the CMDA Summer Meeting, some members inquired whether CMDA planned to re-start the CMDA 20 Group. The consensus is that any future CMDA 20 Group will return to the original pre - 2010 structure, which limits participation in the meetings to dealers only except for the facilitator in order to promote candid discussions among the dealers.  It was also agreed that a minimum of 15 CMDA members must join the group in order to reactivate it and provide for the necessary variety of skill levels, automotive experience, and diversity of issues and benefits for all participants.  The Group would meet a minimum of two times annually and members would agree to fund their participation and share financial and operational information among the participants.

Please Click Here to submit your name later than August 31, 2013 if you would like CMDA to reactivate the CMDA 20 Group and you plan to actively participate.

Many thanks to the Chrysler Group LLC for funding a portion of the CMDA 20 Group expenses from 2010 - 2012 after the 2009 bankruptcy and during a financially difficult time for many dealers.

Nominate your minority GM, Senior Managers and Comptrollers for the CMDA Future Dealers Alliance

The CMDA Future Dealers Alliance (CFDA) was created this year
as a mentor program and participation category for  ethnic minorities who are currently employed as senior sales managers, general managers and comptrollers in Chrysler and Fiat dealerships. CMDA Future Dealers pay a flat $500 annual participation fee, which covers CMDA's costs to include them in our activities. CMDA Future Dealers are not members of CMDA, do not have voting status and may not serve on the CMDA Board of Directors or receive any CMDA membership reimbursement benefits. They may attend open portions of CMDA Annual and Summer Meetings and select networking and training events.

CMDA Member Dealers may invite their nominees to join the Alliance and submit the participation fee via this link or the CMDA website.   The participants will be added to our email list list following their registration.

CMDA 2013 Summer Meeting Highlights

The CMDA Summer Meeting held June 21 - 23, 2013 at the beautiful ocean side St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California was an out of this world experience due in part to the fantastic presentation from Dinner Banquet Keynote Speaker Dr. Leroy Chiao, former NASA Astronaut.  Following the invocation by CMDA member Ray Fregia and introduction by Board Member Evelyn Chatel, it is not an exaggeration to say that Dr. Chiao delivered a terrific speech that included behind the scenes observations of international relations, world and aviation history and never before seen science and outer space photography that educated, mesmerized and heightened the feelings of community and connectedness among all dinner attendees. His entire career including being the first Asian-American and ethnic Chinese to perform a spacewalk and serve as the Mission Commander of the International Space station was inspiring to everyone, especially the children of CMDA members and sponsors who attended the CMDA banquet.

Ally Financial sponsored the Welcome Reception Friday evening at the Monarch Golf Club overlooking the Pacific Ocean. On Saturday morning, Board Member Jay Gill opened the breakfast with greetings and an acknowledgement of the meeting sponsors. Later in the day, the private closed - door Member Dealer Roundtable discussion lasted almost two hours and provided an opportunity for CMDA members to share best practices, advice, operational challenges and issues of concern with each other. The educational automotive presentation from Lawson Owen of Proactive Dealer Solutions -The BDC Experts prompted great interest and extended Q & A with CMDA members. Speaker Erin Kerrigan of The Presido Group provided insight into the current USA buy-sell market for all domestic and international brands and Chrysler dealership valuation statistics, which demonstrate that automotive businesses are in high demand.

Erin Klepaski of Diamond Sponsor Ally Financial; Carlos Alvarez & Demetrios Lahiri of Gold Sponsor American Financial and Automotive Services; and  Jesse Smith, Tonya Blander and Gerrod Parchmon of Gold Sponsors Bank of America Merrill Lynch provided insight into the financial opportunities and funds available for our members in the US capital markets. Dennis Castillo of Global Hue once again presented industry leading multicultural advertisements for Chrysler and Fiat products including bilingual commercials.  Kelly Price and Bear Musgrave of National Automotive Experts and Coffeen Management presented insightful and profitable information on warranty and operational components that can be added to our dealerships. Representatives from sponsors ADP, US Bank, Edmunds.com and Wells Fargo rounded out the meeting with information and services to improve our businesses.

On Sunday and Monday members topped off the fun summer gathering by spending time on the golf links, enjoying the classic car show, and visiting the beach, spa, local amusement parks and restaurants with colleagues, friends and family. The meeting had begun the previous Thursday as members arrived in California in time to watch the fantastic MIAMI HEAT basketball team win the NBA Finals twice in a row on Thursday Night!!  Additional photos from the meeting will be posted on the CMDA website.
