"Just Thinking"

“Just Thinking”

Thoughts and Prayers - On this day in 1963, President John F. Kennedy in Dallas TX.

Yesterday, nature reminded us that seasons change, with the wind whipping through the trees and the rain falling intermittently throughout the day. Time has come to breakout the slippers, jackets, bennies and umbrellas, burning a fire and running the heater. Time to start contemplating some comfort foods, soups, stews, chilly and oh yeah chicken pot pies.

I couldn’t help but think of Guns N' Roses’ classic ballad, November Rain, which was stuck on a loop in my head for most of the day, yesterday. I rewatched the video, I had forgotten what a powerful video it was. It centers on the wedding and subsequent heartbreak between Axl Rose and his bride. The story captures moments of joy, with the band playing in a packed theater with a full orchestra, then a packed cathedral for Axl’s wedding and the outdoor reception that ends in a huge downpour. Followed by moments of sorrow when it show’s Axl’s new bride laying in an open casket on the same alter that she was just married on, her death, leaving Axl devastated. Slash's has an iconic guitar solo taking place in an open desert by a small church, I was taken aback to be reminded that the song came out in 1992, dating myself again.

There are so many movies and songs in our culture that deal with rain and once I started down the rabbit hole, I remembered a bunch of fun rain songs.

MacArthur Park by Richard Harris, "Someone left the cake out in the rain, I don't think that I can take it,’ Cause it took so long to bake it, and I'll never have that recipe again.” The Carpenters, Rainy Days and Mondays with the catch phrase "Rainy days and Mondays always get me down. Purple Rain by Prince, "I never meant to cause you any sorrow, I never meant to cause you any pain, I only wanted to one time to see you laughing, I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain." B.J. Thomas’ Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head that was featured in the awesome western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, staring Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Katherine Ross. The song Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival was featured in the 1978 film Who'll Stop the Rain, starring Nick Nolte, Dad, KB and I saw that movie in the Granada Theater on Mission St. back in the day.

Some the other rain songs and movies that came to mind:

It’s Raining Men – The Weather Girls, a disco era classic. Set Fire to the Rain – Adele. Rain – The Beatles. No Rain – Blind Melon. Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain – Willie Nelson.  It's Raining Again – Supertramp. Fire and Rain – James Taylor. Singing in the Rain – the classic Gene Kelly, song, movie and dance scene. Rhythm of the Rain – The Cascades. Rain on Me – Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande. Here Comes the Rain Again – Eurythmics

A couple movies that feature rain:

Rain Man (1988) - Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. Black Rain (1989) - Michael Douglas. The Rainmaker (1997) – the Francis Ford Coppola movie starring Matt Damon. Then there is my favorite rain in a movie scene that takes place  in the 1984 classic baseball movie, The Natural, Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford), hits a game-winning home run that shatters stadium lights as lightning strikes and the skies open in a torrential downpour an iconic moment in sports/ rain cinema.

“So never mind the darkness, we still can find a way 'cause nothin' lasts forever, even cold November rain.”

Let me know what you think.

About 20% of NFL Fans Say Team Loyalty Influences Their Home Search

It turns out a home’s “must-have” list can go beyond kitchens and bedrooms—especially for football fans.

For about one in five NFL fans, team loyalty had a huge influence on their home search.

A recent Realtor.com survey conducted online August 22-24 also reveals more than half (55%) of these football-loving Americans say supporting a local team helps them feel more connected to their community and neighborhood.

That’s according to responses from a national sample of 2,201 U.S. adults aged 18 and up. Data was weighted by gender, age, race, region and education to represent the U.S. population.

When it comes to NFL fans and the teams they support, a connection to their community is a major driving force and influence. Creating a home is about so much more than buying a physical property—it is also about the community that we build around it. Our new survey shows that football and NFL play a vital role in how we see that community. And that team loyalty is actually less important to most people than their home and the people who surround it. So much so that nearly one-third of NFL fans would actually change teams if they moved to a new city or state. Charlie Lankston - Executive Editor and Real Estate Expert at Realtor.com

NFL Fandom’s Influence on Home Buying

General Influence on Home Search

Nearly one in five NFL fans say their team loyalty played an “extremely significant” or “highly significant” role in their home search.

According to the research, being part of an NFL fandom can influence a buyer’s preferences when it comes to specific home features and layouts, as well as location, right down to the specific neighborhood.

  • 18% of NFL fans were “highly” or “extremely influenced” to search by specific home features, including a covered porch or built-in bar
  • 20% were similarly influenced to search by house layouts or specific rooms, including a basement or a home theater.
  • 18% were similarly influenced to search for homes in specific locations, including cities and neighborhoods near football stadiums.

What a sports fan looks for when they’re shopping for a home has a lot to do with where they generally like to watch the game.

  • Two-thirds (67%) of NFL fans watch games at home in a shared or multipurpose room, such as a living room or family room
  • 29% have a space at home dedicated to watching football, such as a finished basement or a theater room
  • 4% watch the game somewhere other than home

Community and Football Fandom

About two-thirds of NFL fans (66%) say having neighbors who support the same NFL team makes watching football games more enjoyable.
